Wait, what is this??

From what I understand it's pretty much Sony's version of a streamed games rental service in the vein of Gaikai and OnLive, with PS3 games for now, he mentioned TLoU and Beyond ready to be played on Bravia TVs and Vita at the CES booth.

But isn't that basically Gaikai?

Pretty much but we don't what kind of games will they provide. Only legacy platforms, or PS4 games soon as well? Only first party? Probably for the time being until they can settle some agreements with publishers and owners, profit sharing yada, yada. Only Sony devices or beyond as well? PlayStation Mobile goes beyond Sony smartphones and tablets.

Here I don't agree with Kowenicki. I am absolutely not sure what their goal is. Whether they want to drive their manufactured hardware, or focus on being a huge entertainment provider? Is Movies Unlimited and Music Unlimited exclusive to Sony hardware?

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Didn't Kaz made fun of the cloud to announce...a cloud service?

Anyway I'm with eFKac on this one, but it depends on how many games are available on this service. Why would I ever buy more than 1 device when I can just buy 1 and play all games in there? I honestly don't understand this. Depending on how they manage this it could potentially hurt some hardware sells.

Edit: if it's just to play old games?  well in that case this doesn't matter.

it has always been sony's stategy going all back to ps1 that hardware is just a way to sell software.  if hardware isn't profitable who cares if it cuts into sales if you can expand the scope of software sales.

playstation will be a more of a service than a device "next gen".

In that case I will just a buy a tablet to play PS games.

For me is ok really because I'm not that interested in Sony games, but Sony fans should be crying because this would mean Sony will technically be a 3rd party company by next gen, this of course assuming that I can play PS4, PS5 or whatever games on a tablet or PC. But I'm probably getting ahead of myself.

third party?  not really.  they'd be more like steam,. a service platform owner instead of a hardware platform owner.  xbox will go this route too i'm sure of it, in a lot of ways MS is further along than sony already.

Come on, use some of that sense pezus. It is Gaikai, they've just renamed it PlayStation Now

This is a small step for $ony. They are soon gonna offer their games to MS and shit too. R.I.P

Sony devices. So no, not 3rd party.

I won't have to buy a Playstation 5 for example (if there ever is one). I have a Sony Xperia so I could just play the games in there.

Basically I will only have to buy one Sony product and that's pretty much it, going to the my original point where (if this becomes more than just old games) it could potentially hurt hardware sales (phones, consoles, PCs, TVs, whatever).

Yes 3rd party was the wrong word to choose. I didn't thought about it but you are right, it will basically be like Steam. Good for people who like Sony software, but not that great for those who like their hardware.

PS3 games for everybody.

Amazing Sony.

I want to be on the beta... please give me a chance.

I just realised this is even less incentive for native Vita titles to be developed.

Develop for PS4 and remote play them to your Vita + they work on PS4.

Develop for PS3 and stream them to your Vita + they work on PS3.

Goodbye LEGO ports. You lasted longer than most.
