At 28" the benefits of 4K would be negligible, unless you press your nose against it.

I respectufully disagree. As a TV yes but people sit much closer to monitors than TVs.

4K at 28 inches is 1/2 the PPI of iPad Retna display. As long as you sit 3-4 feet away form it you will see plenty of difference between that and 1080p.

3-4 feet! When I play game on my PC I play about 1-2 feet away. I guess I don't notice any resolution issues as I sit 10 feet away from a 1080p 100" projector screen for my PS4

But that is still a serious amount of money. I just got my 2 ASUS 23" monitors for £200 ($300ish) each. Don't want to pay ~triple the price now, especially as only Netflix will make it useful

If I want 4K, I think I'll get a 4K TV then just move my PC (after giving it another or better graphics card) when I want to play Star Citizen in 4k

3-4 feet would be the max distance you can sit and notice the difference, I am aware most people sit ~2 feet away from a monitor.

And yeah it is not cheap by any means, but when you think about price per pixel per inch ratio...its pretty good. 4X the pixels that your monitor provides but only 2.75X the price. :)

To be honest, over the holiday season sales I've picked up the 29 inch 21:9 ratio LG monitor for my PC and this is awesome. If they could make a a "5K" version of that (needs to be wider to accomodate for the 21:9 ratio), make it 35-40 inches and curved, no one would ever need to go eyefinity or tripple monitor ever again.

Nobody NEEDS to go triple monitor... But it's nice to know that if I had a lot of money to spend, there are crazy things I could do with my PC. The problem with all this sort of stuff is that it appeals to such a niche market, it's never going to be cheap. That problem is worsed by the fact that you have these 4k monitors, then multi-screen set ups and also the Oculus Rift competing for the same pie and it's not a big pie. Economics of scale aren't going to get any of those things too cheap any time soon

Personally, I'm okay with just playing a game on a single screen. My friend has triple monitors, but it just didn't seem worth it to me. Nothing has really made me go wow and get me to part with my money

That's a great price!

Hahahaha.  OMG I just can't read these comments anymore with a straight face.  My laptop has a 13.3" screen, and the difference between 1080p and 720p is night and day.

If you can't tell the difference, you have bad eyes.  Period.

You're sitting too close.

The idea is nice. But 28 inches most people won't see it

that's only if you care about that sort of thing. the average consumer will just see the price tag and laugh!!!!!

This is amazing, I can't wait to get something like this for my PC. And anyone who says that there's no visible difference between this and 1080p just simply doesn't have a clue. Those arguments existed between 480p and 1080p and guess what... huge difference. 4K is 4x the resolution of 1080p. 4x.

If you look at one monitor with lower resolution vs. another monitor with 4x that resolution from the same distance, it's like night and day.

that's all good, but the average consumer just doesn't care enough to make that comparison.

its all about perspective. the average designer or photoshop editor will jizz his pants once he sees this thing at that price as long as its ips. the average hardcore gamer will do the same. afterall he just spent a 1000 dollars on a gpu(s)...why would he do this when all he really needed to do for 1080p is spend 150 and lower his AA slightly.

In a fixed size screen, how bigger is the resolution, smaller is the perceptual diference of resolution jump.
is like number of poligons.
so, i tend to think that 1080p to 4k is a smaller than 480p to 720 or 720 to 1080p...
