Forums - PC - ASUS unveils 28-inch 4K monitor at CES that some of us may actually be able to afford

Forget monitors, how about an ultra short throw 4K laser projector

Yours for only $30k to $40k

The cheapest announced (pseudo) 4K projector so far is the JVC for $5000. Ugh still way too expensive.

Its rare that the word afford and CES go together. I would be interested to see this in action before I made judgement.

I was just thinking about those 28" monitor and I got a question I hope someone could answer.

I watch movies on my PC so I wonder: how would any of those 28 inch 4K monitor deal with 1080p movies? I know that the image will have to be stretched to fill all the pixels, but with the pixels being so close the result won't be that bad, right?

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

In the simplest way it will double every pixel and it will look exactly like how it would look on a 1080p monitor.
With a decent upscaler that works directly on the video source you'll get better results, it depends on the player. Since that's a software player on pc they will get better over time. However streaming 1080p movies will not look that good when you sit close, the compression artifacts and softness will be very noticeable. It's the same as blowing up a 540p video to 1080p, still looks decent but you might want to sit back a bit. 4K streaming is on the way though.

Thanks.

I was thinking more about DVD, BluRay or movies that I have on my HDD. Streaming won't be a good option for many years.

What I meant, though, is that altought the pixels will double, since the screen is "small" and the pixel density will be higher than usual, those fake pixels won't make the whole picture as ugly as watching a 540p video on a 24" 1080p monitor.
