Forums - PC - ASUS unveils 28-inch 4K monitor at CES that some of us may actually be able to afford

28 inches of 4K goodness with 1 ms reponse time and $799 MSRP?? Sounds too good to be true...

Details are thin but if it turns out to be the real deal (MVA or IPS pannes, 60 hz+ etc) I may buy one of these...or possibly several. :)

ASUS' 31.5-inch 4K monitor may be the ideal display for many content creators, but a typical asking price over $3,000 rules it out for all but the most affluent. Much to our relief, the company is bringing the cost of its technology closer to Earth with a new 28-inch display, the PB287Q. It touts the extra-sharp 3,840 x 2,160 resolution of its bigger sibling, just in a smaller and cheaper form factor. You aren't giving up much in the way of features, either, as the 28-inch panel boasts a quick 1ms response time, DisplayPort, MHL-capable HDMI and a rotatable design. The real highlight, of course, is the discount -- the PB287Q will ship in the second quarter for $799, which both puts it on par with Lenovo's affordable 4K display and makes it easier to justify for penny-pinching workstation buyers.

At 28" the benefits of 4K would be negligible, unless you press your nose against it.

I respectufully disagree. As a TV yes but people sit much closer to monitors than TVs.

4K at 28 inches is 1/2 the PPI of iPad Retna display. As long as you sit 3-4 feet away form it you will see plenty of difference between that and 1080p.

4K @ 28"......pointless.

IPS will probably not achieve 1ms response.
But yeah, much too small. Call me when there are 40" 4K OLED monitors.

You forgot to ask for 120hz input and $299 price tag. :)

I'll wake you up in year 2024.

120Hz is a given but I would go up to a 2k price tag because that's what it's worth to me.

3-4 feet! When I play game on my PC I play about 1-2 feet away. I guess I don't notice any resolution issues as I sit 10 feet away from a 1080p 100" projector screen for my PS4

But that is still a serious amount of money. I just got my 2 ASUS 23" monitors for £200 ($300ish) each. Don't want to pay ~triple the price now, especially as only Netflix will make it useful

If I want 4K, I think I'll get a 4K TV then just move my PC (after giving it another or better graphics card) when I want to play Star Citizen in 4k

That is a nice monitor, 28" is fine for a 4K monitor. I'm used to 15" 1080p (laptop), which has a nice sharpness when I sit back with a controller. Twice the field of view at the same perceived resolution sounds good.

I'll probably wait for a 4K projector though, same perceived resolution and FOV 10ft from 92" as 3ft from 28", yet a lot more comfortable on my eyes and behind. Although $799, that's hard to resist...

This is amazing, I can't wait to get something like this for my PC. And anyone who says that there's no visible difference between this and 1080p just simply doesn't have a clue. Those arguments existed between 480p and 1080p and guess what... huge difference. 4K is 4x the resolution of 1080p. 4x.

If you look at one monitor with lower resolution vs. another monitor with 4x that resolution from the same distance, it's like night and day.
