AMD just showed that.

What did you think?
What is there to think about? Low access API is always better than a more generalized API. And it's only "up to". Nice to see some actual numbers, though, but this is more important to PC gamers.

The biggest gains will be seen on PC's that are CPU limited, draw cells suck the life out of CPU performance, which then bring down the GPU performance as the GPU isn't being fed fast enough.
Thus the lower clocked AMD CPU's should see some nice gains and thus be more competitive with Intel.

*Passionately hugs and kisses my Radeon 7870* This is great, if Mantle becomes cross platform it'll be even better. Mantle + Steam OS/Linux has me really excited for PC gaming right now.
What exactly is Mantle? Is it a thing to replace Direct X or work in unison with DX?
Why did the 2nd poster mention price? What connection do price have with Mantle? Isn't Mantle free?

Mantle is free.
It is an API that is seperate to Direct X, developers will more than likely support both Direct X and Mantle in conjunction with each other, just if your system supports Mantle... You get a performance increase.
It's really going to shake up the benchmark scene that's for sure unless nVidia decides to support it.

So it's not a complement to Direct X? It's either or? (just like it is with that other API that's been around forever and which Sony uses, forgot the name).
Can you elaborate on your last sentence? (shouldn't it have been "if Nvidia decides to not support it"?) What happens if Nvidia decides to support Mantle?

It is a API to replace the Direct3D... not all the DirectX... so you need to use DirectX in the games for Windows but the graphic part instead to use Direct3D you will use Mantle.
But Mantle is just supported by AMD GCN GPUs (HD 7000, HD 8000 and the new Rx cards)... so developers will create the game in most cases using Direct3D and after that make a optimization patch using Mantle for these GCN GPUs.
Mantle is open so nVidia can implement the support for their GPUs but it won't happen... nVidia already have a API extension like Mantle for OpenGL... some games uses it already.
