Mantle is free.
It is an API that is seperate to Direct X, developers will more than likely support both Direct X and Mantle in conjunction with each other, just if your system supports Mantle... You get a performance increase.
It's really going to shake up the benchmark scene that's for sure unless nVidia decides to support it.
