Netherlands: It used to be Sony minded country, but until last gen it started to be a bigger market for MSFT. But since the last price decrease of PS3, PS3 was the winner in the end. With the new Gen Sony is on top. I understood that if you want to buy a PS4 in a store, you have to wait until end of March/beginning of April to be able to get one. Especially because XBOXone is said to only come to our country somewhere in September 2014. I had the opportunity to get one early, but because of the lack of support (as it died already, I have had always bad luck with my consoles: 3x XBOX360 and 1x PS3) I'm now only playing on my PS4 again.

I see that Sony is doing best for mid aged gamers and Xbox is doing good for teenagers. For the handheld the winner is 3DS and before this gen the DS.

Netherlands.

Like most European countries, the PlayStation is the top brand, though Nintendo has a fair share here. Xbox has a decent presence as well, which incresed greatly over the course of the last generation, but is obviously the smaller one.

Consoles are PlayStation domain definitely, but I wouldn't dare to say whether or not PS3 or Wii won because Wii was huge here. Handhelds are Nintendo's domain like in the rest of the world. I think the Sony handhelds are a small player actually, back in the DS's heyday you used to see people playing them everywhere while you would barely see a PSP. Now, I've still seen a 3DS in the wild a couple times while I never seen a PSV.
In most stores, when you see someone buy a game it's usually PlayStation game. Console-wise, PS3 has the most shelf space, with Wii and XBox360 both about the same behind the PS3. Handheld-wise, the 3DS has pretty much all the shelf space, and before that the DS did. PC gaming is the smallest market I think, shelf space is usually tiny.

Being a small country, our market isn't very big though. Don't know any numbers or facts, but I reckon we're behind UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy in 6th place in Europe given our population.

Simple... Argentina - Small market - Most people that game here do it for FIFA or PES and COD. We got some gamers who like variety but they are the minority.

For China it's 99% PC gaming, if we talk stationary type of gaming. To play in LAN is very popular, like big internet cafés. Most places have hundereds but sometimes thousands of PC's, and people play MMORPG or FPS.

The price where I go sometimes is 10RMB(something like €1/$1) for 3 hours. It includes PC with headset and pre-installed games. You can also install or download other games if you ask first.

Below is an example, I think could be like 80-100 PC's in there. Not very big place and not too small. The place I go to have more like 300-500 PC's.

When it comes to console gaming I would say that the minority that do buy it I think PlayStation is the most used brand. Nintendo and Xbox are more rare but do exist. The easiest to find in Beijing are PS3 and Wii. And it's easier to find a PS4 than WiiU or Xbox One. When it comes to console games I think most will buy NBA, FIFA and PES. The football and basketball games. And I think also some of the big titles like Uncharted, Killzone or so will sell.

In Hong Kong the console market is much bigger than in mainland China, and I think also here PlayStation is the biggest brand. But I can't say too much about this market.

great summary.

agree with 99%, 1% is that original playstation was very popular where I lived(border cities Gubin/Guben) In my school a lot of kids had it.

And my parent could buy me Sega mega drive and Nintendo 64 in Germany(Kaufland)

Good times. ;)

Denmark:

PC and console based games is about equally popular.

in the console space. playstation is undoubtedly the leading brand.. wii got popular, but that was really a one hit wonder from nintendos side.. even so i would say that by now more people has ps3's than wii's.
the original xbox was completely ignored here.. i saw only one person who owned one while everyone had ps2's and had at least heard of the gamecube. they caught up a bit with the 360, but i would still say that the market goes something like this: ps3 - 45percent. wii - 35 percent. x360 -20..

there is not a lot of mainstream recognition in videogames.. GTAv had ads everywhere but otherwise it has been pretty underground for this entire console generation.. on the flipside whenever there is some sort of mainstream media mention of gaming, it isnt at all trying to tell us that videogames is bad for our soul and whatnot.( in general though, our media is very kind and neutral compared to the fear mongeres on fox and some other american tv channels.)

Piracy is gigantic.

Also, it is a PlayStation country:

- PS2 was massive. There are no numbers, but I am sure it was way bigger than any other console ever. Everyone had one. Maybe even two. Not even the -DS came remotely close to the adoption rate of the PS2.

Wii was pretty succesful early on, but PS3 adoption rate is increasing rapidly now.

PS4 is the console everyone wants but no one can afford. One is present but not very appealing.
WiiU is almost nonexistant and retailers hardly have them in stock.

Costa Rica: very small market. The Wii was pretty big at the beginning of the gen, mostly do to the price, but now the PS3 is the one that's taking dominance. CoD, Fifa and GTA are basically the only franchises people own here, very rarely I see people with more variety.

PC gaming is also pretty big because is the easiest to pirate, which pretty big here, till this day I haven't meet anyone who didn't have (or still has) a pirated PS2, you can also buy illegal games in the mall, that's how big piracy is.

Every since the 3DS launched I think I've seen like 5 people playing on the street, never seen anyone with a Vita.

For the new consoles, I see a lot of hype for the PS4 but is too expensive. Microsoft has always been very small here, is easy to find Sony and Nintendo products but Microsoft basically only on dedicated gaming stores.

Games are very expensive, a brand new games can cost $80 or $90, thank god for digital distribution.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Brazil - key facts:

- highly overpriced official products,  probably the most expensive in the world

- high percentage of imported products - extensive "grey" market (prefered over official, due to cheaper prices)

- lots and lots of piracy - specially PC, Wii and Xbox360 games. It´s easy to buy copycat games on the streets. That said, those two are the most popular home consoles here today (a few years ago it was all about PS2).

- total ignorance of our federal government about the size and importance of the videogame market

- Football/soccer and FPS are the most successfull genres, but there´s a good audience for platformers, fighting and casual games

- Handheld gaming is not very popular, but in some main cities, like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the 3DS has a good audience.

- There´s no developer for console games, but a few indie developers do have successfull approaches on social and mobile gaming

Despite all these problems, Brazil still manages to rank among the 10 biggest markets. As how Brazil positions itself in those 10 is an object of discrepancy and speculation, because in Brazil the console, PC, social media and phone gaming market is counted as a single industry. Media says Brazil is the 4th market in this sense, but nobody knows for sure how Brazil would rank if only dedicated consoles were considered. i´d bet Brazil currently ranks between 8 and 10th.

Sweden, quite varied as in a mix between PC and consoles, but PC is still stronger than consoles here.

Xbox is relatively big, but not as big as Sony. Nintendo is fringe. PC is enormous.

Lots of piracy on PC, everybody does it. Very little piracy on consoles.

We love multiplayer (WoW, Battelfield, LOL and Dota).
