Launch hype has nothing to do with hardcore but mainstream gamers. 
You need actual hardcore games or well games at all for hardcore gamers to be hyped. (but I highly doubt real hardcore gamers care about something stupid like hyping up a game)  Thats not the case with  console launches. Its for mainstream gamers for people that fall for marketing and bullshots etc. The easily impressed people.

How did the COD dev say? "people that play COD are not gamers". And he is right they are mainstreamers.  People that watch G.I.Joe are also not cineasts/movie buffs they are mainstreamers too.

And to answer your question. it will stop when people grow a brain.... when our society does a 180° maybe in 500 years otherwhise NEVER because we will end up in an idiocracy.

Also, new franchises don't mean jack if they aren't of quality.

I will agree that Nintendo game quality has declined massively of late compared to Wii era nintendo, and ESPECIALLY NES/SNES era Nintendo, but even the current, declining Nintendo games are STILL about 100x greater quality than most of the boring, generic, and formulaic games you will find on Sony and MS's consoles; games that are riddled with endless cutscenes, unnecessarily complex control schemes, and stupidly easy linear gameplay.

Ohh yahh new franchises from last gen like Uncharted or Last of Us Mass effect Arent quality nuf for ninty supporters, not Marioesque enough and storylines way to complex for ninty supporters, also not enough cartoonin colours for anyone to ever enjoy.  And way to complex control scheme for the champions of waggle.

They make em cause its safe selling the same character with the same lack of story and same simpleton controls to their adoring delusional fanbase.

This isnt a contest, im not disputing that Sony/Microsoft/3rd parties make new ip. U seem to be bashing Nintendo for the sake of it. If u dont like them or there games dont appeal to u thats fine and critisizing them is fine as well but make sure ur critism is actually warranted.

Your pathetic list proves it is, or did i not show you what their competition did in a single gen.  And why is half of what you posted for handheld, were discussing consoles here.   You know why, casue nin hardly takes the risk to create new content on console.  You had little to post.

Made weak hardware, made weird controller tablet but made no game to show its strengths... brilliant.  Ill take em two years before they get one awesome looking new ip out, X.  All any one that is not a blind ninty supporter can do is critizise, they have done nothing that deserves legit praise.  Untill X i hope.

I would like to point out that u have changed ur argument with each new response. Ill give a brief summary of our conversation.

You: Nintendo relies on decade old franchises. COD/GTA are better!!!!!

Me: COD/GTA are over a decade old as well. List of other popular, high selling decade old franchises on PS/Xbox

You: but they make new ip as well. Nintendo doesnt.

Me: list showing Nintendo makes at least a few new ip for each and every platform.

I don't give a crap about storylines. If I want good storylines, I read books, watch movies (and maybe a few TV shows like Breaking Bad). I sure as hell don't look for them in video games, since most of them have horrible stories and writing anyway compared to movies. I play games to have fun, and to be in control. I'd rather create MY OWN stories when I play. Some backstory in the background of the game is ok, but I don't like having narratives forced upon me.

Eh, I played Uncharted and wasn't too impressed. It was fun for a little bit but got pretty repetitive fast. The cover system seemed flawed and felt like a poor man's Gears of War, and I got painfully bored with the endless cutscenes they constantly threw at me. It was also a bit linear for my tastes. Besides the pointless collectables, you had little reason to divert from the provided path.

Mass Effect I felt COULD have been awesome, but there was just WAY too much dialouge, even for an RPG. The controls were also very odd and complex on the 360. Seems like it would work far better on PC. I'm thinking of giving it another chance on PC with the keyboard and mouse set-up. Again, simply having a new franchise doesn't automatically make it good.

In short, I'd much rather play yet another Mario game than some of this boring crap that constantly gets churned out for Sony and MS's consoles. There are a select few gems in there but the majority are just way too easy, linear, and formulaic for my tastes.. But hey, at least those games have stories as you say! That is after all, the most important aspect of a video game! Oh and also teh grafix

I'd say in a couple weeks when people start to see the PS4 and XBO's non-holiday high numbers. But, that happens to all consoles. Sooo I'm not really sure why this isn't an obvious thing........
