Well, Atlus has enjoyed profitabilty on the Vita.

With a remake. That's cheaper to develop. And a successful one.
Anyways, seems to be mainly the fault of the dev, not the Vita. He clearly states next time he uses a preexisting engine. Developing new engines for games is nowadays only a good investment, if you have a really big game that brings back the money or if you plan on releasing more games on the engine. Using a third-party-engine would have probably made the project cheaper to develop, and therefore profitability more likely.

I know Dragon's Crown was inspired by Capcoms arcade Dungeons and Dragons Beat em up. But I wouldn't call it a remake :p
Dragon's Crown Vita ver was the best selling digital title on PSN in 2013 (think this was just for Japan) across all PlayStation formats.

Oh, yes, Atlus released a second game for Vita. I was talking about Persona 4 Golden. But Dragon's Crown sold well enough, with Atlus having pretty low budgets it should also clearly in be the black.
