Forums - Gaming - what can fps's do differently?

Give back the skillbased Arena Shooters of the old days.
Far to many military Casual Shooters are out - The only thing changing is the name.
At least Battlefield is somehow different cause of its size and Multiplayer.

And give me finally my damn Rainbow Six Patriots and let it please be good.

More open worlds with deep interactions or RPG elements like in Far Cry 3 or Fallout 3.

Open worlds games are the future.

This.  UT3 and Quake 3 are the best shooters.  If they want to do something to add longetevity, add perks that you can equip while still keepi everything else the same.  Perks that double small health pick ups, perks that double the amount of ammo weapons you acquire start with, etc.  Maybe perks that let you jump a little higher, double wall jump, triple jump, etc.  Have a ton of different perks and only allow a certain amount to be equipped at once.  Make sure they're balanced though, not stuff that's too good.  Perks early in the game that are just as good as later ones but used differently.

Not that the game needs perks, but those people who play the games just to prestige.  It'll keep them interested in requiring you to get level ups.

Stop with the 'save the world by being the biggest mass murderer' plots.
Focus more on the chase instead of the kill.
Bring back the humor, Nolf mixed with mirror's edge gameplay for example.
Mix it with the adventure genre, maybe some crazy time travel plot.

tht wouldnt work. there will be balance problems and everybody would play wit 1 set...  a ladder an skins for lvl should be enough to hold the tard crowd.     the main problem is that these games are to freaking hard without matchmaking that works well. im good at ut, but i get my ass kicked on the wrong servers because there are people who are just insane, they are so freaking fast and shoot so fuckn well.

and the KI was to good, its not good if people play for month and still cant stand bots(i have seen that often), the cod crowd would cry to much.

these games are just so much better than actual fps games, mod and map support, good KI, shitloads of gamemodi and modifications like low gravity or vampire, no hp regen, good vehiclecombat, good pvp missionmode, private servers....

cant understand how people are okay with getting less every year(okay there is  dog now...)

Is there an FPS/TPS that's centered around jet packs?

If I was going to experiment, I would love to make either an FPS that's very focused on jumping and jetpacking (I guess sort of like what little I know about Titanfall or Quake), where there's really high health and battles are more like prolonged duels and the long fights allow for more teamwork (e.g. you're being chased and pinned by an enemy, so you fly towards one of your teammates who ambushes the enemy).

A TPS that's focused on zero gravity or something would be cool too. Maybe zero gravity's the wrong word. Basically every surface is kind of sticky, so you can be on the ceiling shooting someone on the ground, and seemlessly run across the wall horizontally.

And Bad Company 1 did an amazing job with destruction, which sadly got toned down in terms of actual game mechanics afterwards. I would love to see more of Bad Company 1 gameplay, where the game was centered around destruction.

there is a free tribes on steam, looks okay, is fast as shit with some jetpack action(no big jumps, just to speed u up when u are sking, yes u are sking all the time), it doesnt even have big problems with free to play because its heavily skillbased and better gears arnt so much stronger.

I don't think so.  If you're playing VCTF, you might have one player who is going to be a flag carrier using perks like triple jump and double wall jump  instead of any of the others.  Getting double ammo with each pick up might benefit someone more than double small health(+10 instead of +5.)  I think with 100 levels, they could think of 25 to 50 different useful perks.  Have perks where specific weapons might fire a little bit faster, so one perk that makes the sniper rifle fire 20% faster, one perk where the enforcer/dual enforcers fire 20% faster, one with the shock rifle, but not one that makes the rocket launcher fire faster, but maybe one that lets you charge for double or triple rockets 20% faster.  Perk where the enforcer takes off five extra damage per hit, so four hit kills instead of five.  Equip the 20% faster enforcer shots and five extra damage per hit, and then dual enforcers are even more awesome than they already are.  They could have one perk where self damage from weapons like flak cannon and rocket launcher are halved.

The ones I listed wouldn't really disrupt any balance, because each variation I've listed would make someone better in different ways.  I think if they did have perks to Unreal Tournament and the ones I listed were included, you'd see most people having different perks equipped, not the same ones.

Random thought for an FPS. Basically you have "drugs" that you can activate whenever you want. So a drug that'll suddenly make you jump higher, run faster, punch with one hit kill, etc.

So basically, firefights would have players using "drugs" constantly to change up the tactics.

And then maybe you can have an overdose feature where if you take too many drugs or too much of a drug, there's some kind of consequence where your character goes haywire or your vision becomes blurry, etc.

Of course, they could just do this with "powerups", but I love the idea of a player using a drug in desperation to jump to safety, or take a drug to get serious and lay some heavy damage on a player.

Hell, surprised there aren't a lot of games focused on power ups. You could have a FPS where players can sort of summon an animal spirit and gain a kind of power (flight, swimming, etc).

But whatever FPS there is, I want 2 things: 1) High health 2) High mobility

No instant deaths or boring camping like in Call of Duty
