SM3DW above SMG2? Heck, I need a WiiU to play this.

Every 3D Mario is above Galaxy expansion.

You won't drag Super Mario Heaven 2 like that. I'll be buying the first one next week. I need to be reborn playing SMG.

By the way, about the camera. When you say it's terrible at times, you mean singleplayer, multiplayer or both? I like bitchy cameras.

I was going to make a thread about this. Am currently playing 3D world and I feel it's very good, excellent actually, but no where close to Galaxy. It feels like 2.5D Mario. The stages are mostly clever, music is great, difficulty is easy, but ramps up, but again, it's not on the level of Galaxy, or 64. I hate the time limit, and it feels like a game they should have launched with instead of the 2D Mario game. I'm still waiting for my real 3D Mario.

3D Land is a product of Iwata's Nintendo, which is a Nintendo that likes to port successful handheld games to their consoles to save on cost and time. Everything about modern Nintendo is about saving on costs and time. Before design, concept, gameplay and anything else, comes cost. Everything MUST be done as cheaply as possible before it's even considered. That's why the Wii was a Gamecube with a new controller and the Wii-U is a 360 with a new controller. It's why the 3DS and Wii-U doesn't have capacitive screens. It's why 3D Land exists instead of a modern Mario64 ( a game that DWARFS 3D Land in ambition). It's why none of their games have extremely deep online gameplay. It's why it took so many years for them to finally start using real music instead of midi. It's why they STILL refuse to start using full voice acting and cutscenes.

People want to believe them when they say they have a reason for excluding this or that, but it comes down to Iwata and his business sense. He is all about investors and profit margins. He will not green light big projects if there is even a moderate risk of not creating a huge bottom line. Sometimes it's paid off, other times, it hasn't. I think going forward, he's going to have to get with the times and spend some of that capital. Nintendo's console games are starting to become love letters to an era that doesn't exist anymore.

The guy bankrolled Wonderful 101

So if your hypothesis is true, Iwata is an idiot at trying to follow his own strategy.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

First Galaxy, while linear, lets you explore more than 2, like the older games. Also, the environments let you feel more like you are in the Outer space, I mean, the hub is a comet observatory.

About 3DFlop, well the camera can be terrible at times in both. In multiplayer it focus in the character nearer to the flag goal, so if you are exploring or going for a secret it will get you into a bubble and transport to the screen. Also, sometimes zoom outs or in way to much, and as you don't have control of it, that makes you fail.

Exactly. This could have been a good launch game instead of NSMBU. It have the 2D feel and looks way better than the new smb game. Nintendo should have waited to make a real 2D Mario.

I don't know... sadly I didn't finish Galaxy, and Galaxy 2. Will probably go back and play them.

I think 3D > SM3DW > Sunshine, but in 2013 I'd rather play SM3DW .

My 8th gen collection

The camera is one of the few complaints I have about the game. I really wish we had full control of it. Overall it's a very solid game. My rankings would go like this: sm64>galaxy1>sm3dw>galaxy2>sunshine. I would cream my pants if they were to announce a true sequel to Super Mario 64. I get a funny feeling just thinking about it!

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

Shigeru Miyamoto

Galaxy 1 better than Galaxy 2 you say?.....Real 3D Mario games for the most part better than 3DWorld you say.....good ....

3D World isn't the paradigm-shifting masterpiece that Mario Galaxy was, but it's still a great game.
The controls are tight, the level designs are elegant, sound and visuals are beautiful, and it's polished to a sheen only EAD games ever seem to achieve.

I'd rank the 3D games:
Galaxy > Galaxy 2 > 3D World > 64 >>>>> Sunshine

Why is everyone confusing 2D, 2.5D and 3D?
SMB 1-3, SM World: 2D
New Super Mario Bros. Series: 2,5D
SM 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1&2, 3D Land and 3D World: 3D

@ prayformojo:
Yeah, that's why the finance TW101 (most expensve PG game so far) and Bayonetta 2 and why they produce games like Xenoblade Chronicles or X...
Yeah, and that's why they introduced most new control scemes.

Nintendo isn't the only company who doesn't create open world 3D platformers anymore. It's a dead genre, the last games were released around 10 years ago. I hope they'll revive it in 2015 or 2016.

You think there are no Nintendo games with voice acting and cut scenes? They have it since the N64.
