Forums - Microsoft - Was MS's decision to limit the launch countries this holiday to 13 a mistake?

they should have released at least in all of Europe, Australia, New Zealand etc in Addition to 'Merica

Umm Australia and NZ were part of the 13 countries the X1 launched in during November.

I do agree with you and the others. They should really have launched in all of EU, possibly in Asia as well considering sales there will not be as huge (simply because there is less demand in developing countries). Though they can still get some sales back if they launch in those areas soon enough, say before the shortage of ps4s in those countries is over.

I don't think MS made a mistake. Keep up with demand in the biggest market in the world.

How many sales did Sony delay or lose because people were able to find an XBO and not a PS4?

Perhaps we will see a reversal from last gen. The PS3 started slowly and then built momentum over time. Maybe the XBO will also continue to build momentum.

Right now, neither system has a must have game. XBO has Ryse, Forza and DR3 and the PS4 has Killzone.

I really want to see what kind of impact Titanfall has when it is released. I think that game will be the first system seller on the market for either system. If MS markets the game right, I believe it can move a lot of systems with Titanfall.

The problem is that MS seems to have completely overestimated demand in the US, look at the link in the OP, compare the X1 with the other consoles, every console is sold out almost everywhere only the X1 is ridiculously easy to find according to this site. This alone shows how MS (and also retailers) misjudged the demand and completely stuffed the channels. All those units lying on the shelves on the 24th could easily be of more use to MS if they had allocated them to a couple more countries, they wouldn't have lost a single sale in the US because of this.

I think some of you are jumping the gun saying that the x1 will do badly. I think theywill be behind the ps4 but they will still get plenty of sales. I think MS will be happy with that considering they likely make a much bigger profit on each console thansony do on the ps4.

I think they overestimated demand in the US. It was stupid of them to concentrate so hard on one area, and risk losing the rest of the world to Sony. Sony now has the advantage in over 40 countries, and they're probably going to win the US as well.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

People have forgotten that fast Black Friday week and the next? There was the same claim XOne was doomed because there was plenty of stock and bla-bla-bla.

This (sorry guys) stupid notion that consoles must be sold out this hollyday is just it, stupid. For years iPhones and iPads are the bestsellers of tech and they are never sould-out.

For that logic Europe seems to be slow for PS4 either, since Amazon UK, France and Germany are well suplied for some weeks now. And then, for NA as I check they got only one big shippment for Amazon, that lasted 2 days.

PS4 and XOne will hit the 3mi mark about the same time this hollydays.

I think they expected stronger US sales. Had it sold what they expected, then it would have been a perfectly good strategy (especially if they wanted to retain the US market). Seeing as demand is lower than the amount of stock they have right now, i'd say it was a mistake.

Do you even fact check before you post things like that? The PS4 is sold out at Amazon UK, France and Germany at least for a reasonable price.

Also that many X1s still lying unsold in stores right now is a definitive sign that a couple more countries would've been a good idea from MS.

I checked yesterday when I was to post this.

Sorry.

OT: could have been good, but had MS the man power and time to localize to those countries? Would it sell more?

Don´t know. Don´t think unsold unities are any problems, if they realy exists, and if they are that many as you want us to belive.

I could picture to you the Brazilian situation. Just for you to know, last weekend every store here had many Xone in stock, piles of 10 to 15, no PS4 everewhere to be seem. Online stores both never went out of stock.

But then I usue to ask clerks of stocks and sells, the ones I spoke told me too interesting facts

1: XOne is been re-stocked once a week, they sell usualy 4 to 5 a day and 15 the weekends

2: PS4 had ONY ONE shippment, the first day, with less than 10 per store.

So, why would Sony neglect such a important market as the Brazilian´s? I´ve read in some local foruns that the situation is the same in many South America territories like Chile, Argentina and Colombia.

Then, yes, I think you logic is proposterous. Availability is not a problems, there was nothing wrong with MS strategies and Sony is not striding to WW lidership by under delivering its cheaper console WW.

Thank you.

PS: Again, take a look at VGC and Neogaf threads about BF week.

Sorry to say this but the Brazilian market is not important and neither is South America, how many consoles were sold there last gen?

Nope. Having consoles available is a good thing. To have the sales that it has had and still have stock available is how a launch SHOULD be. Sellouts just frustrate everyone. For example, those looking for PS4's ...
