you kinda walk into this one, but it's quite possible to compare consoles to PC's like this simply because consoles do not have the massive trailer full of junk that is windows to be carried along behind them (except maybe the dreamcast and the original xbox since they both had modified versions of windows running under the hood)

I know which is why I had this comeback ready

But if I was moving a house I would rather have the giant trailer hanging off the back to carry it than a motorbike.

Also the OG Xbox didn't have a version of windows that plan was scrapped. The Xbox One on the other hand does have a version of windows running on there and from the sound of things is actualy more of a dead weight to games thanks to kinnect and the snapping stuff. Windows doesn't do anything close to reserving 10% of the GPU and two whole CPU cores, let alone the 3GB of RAM... Both the PS4 and XBOne have actually moved a lot closer to windows in terms of OS overhead.

I for the life of me cannot figure out what they would need 3GB for.  I assume they will give back at least a full GB eventually, but still...

It already happened before PS4/xbox one came out:

BF4 graphics on PC are sometimes breathtaking beautifull..

Clearly thats not running on a PC from 2006, so whats the point?

Because he said PS4, not PS3. This computer is most definately 2013. :)

Actually he did say PS3 (also in the thread title), he also said 512mb RAM.

Here are the PS3's results many years after its launch....getting better and better.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=174773&page=2#1

Even If we allow a PC from 2006 to have 1GB of ram for windows xp, it still wont run many games the PS3 is running today, and thats because of my point made previously....which one of the hundreds of thousands of PC builds to developers optimise their games for?

The same way, if you buy a PC today with a PS4 equavalent GPU (7970), it may do better than a PS4 for a year, but you will have paid more for the system, and it wont last as long as a PS4.

realistically, maintaining a PC that can continue to outperform a console every year is not a viable option for most people, yet if you were to find a thread for PS3 vs PC for every year since its launch, you will find that the PC fans use newer builds all the time to prove its power which is just stupid.

Only pc games are ever on sale?

go visit my thread @ http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=174578&page=1#

Now also talking about games from GoG.com? Fallout 1 and 2? Now you're actually talking about games which would run on a pc with 256mb of system memory at least. That's the only logical thing about this post regarding this thread.

You call THOSE sales? Ahahaha.

Meet Steams: Currently 2,000 Games on sale, it makes that list look laughable.

Checked the sale for comparison to see how much UMVC3 was at steam, couldn't find it.

Guess you could compare the sales of say.... counterstrike to its xbox version

http://www.ebay.com/itm/COUNTER-STRIKE-M-/390731473186?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item5af9692122 which I guess is comparable even if it is a 14 year old game.

GTA5 was quoted as one of the upcoming games to join the daily sales.

as for their being 2000 games on that btw, I notice that the likes of Bit trip * games have been almost divided into their individual game modes for sale but you can compare that to the console version of all of them... well.. I say console but on the upside at least you wouldn't need to change the hardware in your PC to compare the graphical abilities to this system.

tip of the hat to someone else who read the OP.

I do wonder tho if it wasn't even for the sake of getting DX11 gfx card how much would a PC have cost in 2005 which would run the likes of CoD:Ghosts or even the exclusives like Halo4/Forza 4(horizons) or The last of us lvls of graphics? it definately would not be at this side of 1k

edit - Keep in mind the PS3 has 256mb of system memory, the 512 is the total including whats wedged onto its Reality Synthesizer GPU

"The PS3 has 256MB of Rambus XDR DRAM, clocked at CPU die speed.

The GPU is clocked at 550 MHz and makes use of 256 MB GDDR3 RAM clocked at 700 MHz." - copy pasta from wiki.

You have to be the first and only person on this planet who thinks that their console's sales beats Steams.
They don't have thousands of games on sale at once, they don't discount 80-90% end of story.

Anecdotal and I'm not claiming that any one system is the best, but I'm certainly saying that aligning yourself to only one system will limit your entertainment options. That is fact rather than fabricated opinion.

A few PC owners have been saying that current gen consoles such as ps4 and xbone are already outdated or will be more out dated by the end of this gen just by judging it on the specs, consoles specs should not be compared with pc specs, how many pc rigs can run games like the last of us with 512mb of RAM?  infact what would a current game look like running on 512mb of ram on a pc??

Forget TLOU, a comparable spec'ed pc from 2005 wouldnt even run most of the multiplats now. Try Bioshock Infinite or GTA V... lol

PS3 didn't have x86 architecture. PS4 does.

At 256 mb of Ram and Video memory I'd imagine the Draw distance for Bioshock infinite wouldn't even cover the whole lenght of your gun :D

Well, let's see, if I recall correctly - Skyrim (what I'd imagine to be a game that uses a lot of ram) at max settings 1080p uses about 800 mb - 1.5 gb of my ram. Notice that the console versions are sub-HD (nowhere near 1080p), do not have high quality texture and shader mods, and have very small draw-distances. If I ran Skyrim at <720P at low-medium quality settings, no mods, etc, etc, I'm sure it would use somewhere close to 512mb, without any " closed-platform optimization" necessary.
