Forums - Sony - Should Sony offer an Xbox style Dualshock 4?

i think having two variants of the controller might make it hard on developers as they would have to consider all variants when play testing the contollers.

...but i would like for them to offer 2-3 sizes: large, medium, and small. man-hands vs. kid-hands deserve some size options.

That was a myth created because the 360's controller was better than DS3 and most guessed it was because the asymmetrical thing but DS4 showed it was not that the case because even the people that loves asymmetrical can't complain about the DS4's symetrical.

DS3 issues are related more at the loose sticks and the bad triggers.

I still have yet to try the DS4 and the One controller before i could judge, I hope your statement tuns to be accurate, because for the moment i'm all going PS4

Why downgrade?

Personal preference but right now for me:

DS4 > 360's controller > Xbone's controller > DS3

* DS4 and 360's controller are really close
* Xbone's controller have better D-pad but the sticks are loose compared with 360's controller and the bumpers are the worst ever created in a controller.

Curious as to how you would rate/compare their triggers?

No. They shouldn't. It doesn't even make sense from a marketing perspective. Sony doesn't want to help promote the Xbox controller. That's stupidity. You might as well acknowledge that the competitor's controller may be better. Sony wants to promote THEIR design. Xbox fans are not going to suddenly want the PS4 because there is a controller designed the same way on the console. For one, if that's what they want then they already have it. Two, the controller is not the sole reason they chose Xbox. For many it's not even a reason at all. Many of them chose Xbox because they liked the games, the features, the Kinect, Xbox Live, gaming with friends who are Xbox fans themselves, or simply "because Microsoft". Sony making a controller like the Xbox One controller would do little more than toss fuel onto an already raging fanboy fire.

DS3 have worst triggers.

Xbone'controller have slightly better triggers than 360's controller... so DS4 too... now between DS4 and Xbone I can't say what have the better tigger... they are different but both are great and effective.

Maybe I need more time with the Xbone's controller too but I think DS4 have better D-pad, sticks and bumpers... symetrical and asymetrical are personal preference (I do like symetrical)... everything else are a tie or maybe slightly better on Xbone's controller.

Edit - Xbone's controller fells better than 360's controller on hands but DS4 just seems magical on the hands... it is so much confortable like you created a controller that fits exactly your hand.

As maybe a peripheral off purchase buy? Sure.

As the main controller? No. Sony needs to stick with their tried and true design. I like it a lot more than the Xbox design personally.

no they shouldnt. it would make using the touchpad really really awkward.

Lol, I dont think you can make using the touchpad any more awkward then it already is...

Variety would be nice same for the xbox one.

I don't care either way personally, but lets be serious here:

The entire terminology was only ever coined by the damage control/FUD of PS2 fanboys who switched to the 360 last gen.

Remember how the DualShock 2 was the greatest controller present on God's green earth while the original Xbox controllers (yes, plural, this also happened with the smaller S-type controller) was the laughing stock of the playground? I sure as hell do.

The biggest problem with this idea is they would have to redesign the entire controller so the analog stick and dpad can actually fit in the alternative position and for the controller to be comfortable. I think it's too much effort to bother but that's just me.
