Forums - Nintendo - Wii U is Performing Better Than PlayStation 3 and Vita for First 54 Weeks in Japan?

This isnt a great achievement all things considered, when you consider just how disastrous the PS3's first Year was and how shitty the Vita has done there.

PS3 sold so badly that it lost Final Fantasy and Resident Evil exclusivity, never got a worthwhile Monster Hunter, didnt get Dragon Quest and even Tales, Star Ocean and many others went to the competition.

New Super Mario Bros. U has already outsold EVERY single PS3 launch game in Japan.

Yeah, let's forget the numbers of the predecessor.

That's as reassuring as the statement of 'judging a console before the first Christmas'.

?

PS2 sold 150Mil, that was even worse of a fall. I don't see what you're trying to tell us?

The main subject of this thread is WiiU, thus, the predecessor is the Wii. My point is that comparing it with the pathetic sales of PSV, and the rough start of PS3 ain't no achievement at all, specially when the previous console had monster sales.

What do you guys predict will happen next?

during the shortage of games people was sure that the WiiU was destine for failur. Sales seem to be putting out in all regioins, so can Nintendo Really turn this  console around? like they did with the 3DS?

First Year (52 weeks0

PS3-1,27955

WiiU-1,219,474

PSV-1,074,621

First 54 Weeks (WiiU LTD)

WiiU-1,343139

PS3-1,341,304

PSvita 1,110,333

Maybe the WiiU isnt as doom as everyone would like us to believe. Look at the Xbox One, before it even came out  base on all the hype of ps4 and everyone saying it "sucks", its selling pretty good.

well the vita is dead, it has no life, the wiiu will never reach ps3 numbers because its not gonna have thirdparty support, and it didn't start off at 599$, and won't last as long as the ps3, because ps3 is selling much better world wide then wiiu at this point.

This actually puts things in perspective pretty well.

But Vita's sales were good enough to pick up increasingly more third party support, so the Wii U is saved.

Oh give it a rest. The Wii U is getting brilliant 3rd party support with games like Hyrule Warriors, Shin Megami Tensai x Fire Emblem and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Games.

That is actually good news! We see where the ps3 is now. Wii U could do it.

No Wii U haters here? Hmmm....I wonder why?

Thats good news? We see were the ps3 is at now? Yeah... at 9mil in Japan. Why arent there haters? Because you are the third post

Wasn't the PS2 supported for years and years after PS3 came out while Nintendo literally stopped making Wii's for Japan so they could sell Wii U's?

Not to mention the PS3 was insanely expensive and had massive competition from the Wii at the time. These are really two different situations, especially when you see global totals where the PS3's first year was likely 130-160% higher than the Wii U's first year.

Japan all to itself against one 8 year old console no one ever cared about and one 7 year old console that never really caught on properly there (still below 10 million sales in seven years), I don't know why so many are reading so much into Japan numbers or the holiday boost, one would almost think that they expect these numbers to continue into 2014.

The PS3 was never big in Japan, beating it 7 years in here and still falling way below half in global totals kind of suggests a less than stellar 2014. Unless John Lucas is spot on and the Wii U sells 29.5 million units next year.

PS3 was a real dud. Vita an even bigger dud. Wii U another dud. I don't think there will be another Sony handheld. But I'm positive there will be another Nintendo Console.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
