Forums - Microsoft - DRM interrupts Killer Instinct tournament in NYC

This is a parody gaming journalism site, bro.

Don't feel bad. At least you didn't get fooled by the Onion like that one Chinese newspaper.

My guess is that the owner of the Xbox One where the game was played was not the owner of the game that was played.

As with the Xbox 360, if the owner of the title is not signed in (lost connection to Xbox LIVE) the game will not play or reverts to a demo mode (in the case of the Xbox 360).

EDIT:  Also, just so everyone is clear, the PS4 uses the same exact DRM technology that the Xbox One uses.  Sony licensed Microsoft's DRM technology from them late last generation.  Sony and Microsoft have the same exact DRM technology, hence why Sony could have implemented what Microsoft proposed, but which both companies backed away from.

The benefit of using a common DRM scheme (regardless of what constraints if any are placed on the content) is that services offered by various companies could easily be adapted for one console or the other.  So, if Microsoft helped Redbox with an online rental scheme for Xbox games, Sony could easily get involved with it for PS4 games.

What seemed like somewhat serious news from the title, turned out to be another sick effort to throw mud on a console for seemingly unknown reasons. One can really find trash around the web these days.

This, I stole from grandpa...It's called soap.

Jesus that "article" is written like some 12 year old fanboy and to suggest that you'll get better performance from a 400dollars PC, if only that had been the first line I could have stopped reading right there.

I'm realizing that jokes fall on deaf ears these days. Consoles too serious.

When solicited for comment on this story, a Microsoft representative asked, "What is 'FGCNN'?", before hanging up the phone. Double Helix was not asked to comment on this story. FGCNN has not been able to research the validity of any of these "DRM" claims, as FGCNN staff skipped over purchasing an XBox One to instead purchase a low-end $400 Gateway computer, as performance was better.

yeah, very credible and trustworthy source with a professional approach. Jesus their first line of the article blows any credibility out of the water. The paragraph above is a pathetic.

Troll article. The thread? no comment.

The article ofcourse wasn't anywhere close to professional, but the situation really occured. There is a link to the video in the article. (at "nycfurby" - it isn't highlighted for me, but I found it when I wanted to copy/paste the twitch channel name)

described as a "tournament"... its three guys (students) sat in a room.   But anyway, whats the big deal?

they lost over 4 minutes of their lives because they didn't select offline mode to play offline?!!!!!1111 11one one one

Also they suggest everyone buy a steambox? they do know you have to prep games for offline play on steam too right? So glad I didn't click the link to give the site that puts "articles" like this on it a hit and advertising revenue.

To which a tournament match with several thousands of dollars at stake could've been resolved without dispute.

But hey-ho, if uneducated damage control helps you sleep at night....
