Metacritic paints a CLEAR winner every time both IPs release. Sure Forza 5 is what it is but that can be attributed to it being a rushed launch title. Otherwise the example holds true.
A FPS gamer will never feel the guns they play in real life. A Sim fan has probably never test driven the cars they drive in-game. We essentially "take their word for it" that the object behaves the way it does.
One sells based on its name...its brand, based on its peak years. The other has more of a cult following, but has quality on its side (see metacritic).

GT5 released on a Wednesday and GT6 released on a Friday. Didn't know that.
Hopefully the people saying it flopped also didn't know that either. Otherwise why would they be comparing the numbers directly?

Predictable, but doesn't mean it is invalidated. It is a barometer of critical acclaim, something tangible. Not perfect, but the best we have to use in such debates.
That was off topic, but I hope this continues to underperform relative to GT5. Not because I relish its failure or anything, but that it means the next generation will be more of a fresh slate for all. It would be nice for games like GT and COD to sell based on their own merits, not because of its name.

some games, even 3d ones are happy with 1m. It's just being efficient with your money which many devs don't seem to have gotten down pat (mainly Squeenix). LBP and Infamous haven't done great since their first installments yet they get sequels and I can only guess it's because they made money.
