So there are 40 million 3DS owners and 4.5 million Wii U owners. Do you think having Miiverse on 3DS could potentially bring Wii U and its games to the attention of some of the userbase. Many Nintendo fans have 3DS systems, but have yet to ( or are on the fence) delve into the latest Nintendo home console. A lot of gamers could see the good line up of exclusives or the full range of indie games that Wii U offers via Miiverse, and that may sway them to make a purchase. There is obviously a lot of good word of mouth regarding Wii U and its games on Miiverse, and if Nintendo are smart they could try and tap in to some of their handheld userbase.

Thoughts???

Does having access to vgchartz drive pc sales?

I couldnt possibly say, i access VGchartz with my Wii U gamepad

So does having access to vgchartz drive wii u sales then?

The existence of the 3DS itself benefits the Wii U. People who play Nintendo franchises on the 3DS will want to play them on the Wii U.

I feel it's the other way around actually. Why pay $300+ to play NSMB when you can pay sub $200.

That works for a series that transcends platforms, but a game like say, SSB, will play better on consoles and people who play it on the 3DS will want to play it on a console.

You haven't played the game to know that and nothing we've seen so far shows this. That last part will not likely be the case for the majority, and regardless it works both ways.

SSB biggest appeal is its local multiplayer. Even if the 3DS version takes off and does well, there will still be things the Wii U version does better (local multiplayer - don't need multiple 3DS' to play, etc, etc.) Furthermore, I have a feeling that Nintendo will make them work in tandem. As for the last part, it is true of SSB's audience, but since when were we talking about majorities? We were always talking about marginal boosts or losts in sales induced by a different game.

I was always talking about the 3DS's existence hindering the Wii U's sales, and simply used NSMB as one example out of many. You then brought up SSB, which really has no weight here as we have no sales of a handheld version yet.

I made a deductive claim that NSMB is a game that transcends platforms and used an example of a game that doesn't transcend platforms, not as a refutation, but as an example of the difference between NSMB and other releases. There aren't many games that can be said to be the same on both the Wii U and 3DS, which is why I mentioned SSB (it should be analagous to NSMB2 and NSMB Wii U.) I do not use anecdotal examplse (like you had) because there is no inductive means to determine whether or not sales are affected from that particular fact, only deductive means. We cannot say whether or not NSMBU sold less because of the existence of the NSMB2, especially considering the sales of the games on the DS and Wii respectively, and considering the decline in the series in general.

What we can be certain of is that people who played the series before bought a Wii U for this game. Whether they played it on the Wii, 3DS, or DS is irrelevant.

Because you're getting a richer, big-screen, HD, more-content-on-the-disc experience with Wii U.

That will play out with the Smash Bros. release, big time. Honestly, Smash on 3DS looks graphically worse than Brawl.

This idea is just as desparate as thinking that remote play will help sell the vita.

It isnt desperation, i was asking a legitimate question. Many people are unsure of Wii U, but being able to access Wii U communities via your 3DS may bring more attention to the system. As stated in the OP, there is a huge install base for 3DS and if Ninty were clever enough they could use Miiverse to put the Wii U " out there" and try to tap into some of that user base. I have never said Miiverse will sell Wii Us, but it can be used to reach a broader demograph, kinda like free advertising.

It doesn't matter how much advertising you do if your system has no relevant games to begin with. The 3DS like the WII U has very similar audiences and that very same audience rejected the WII U. It doesn't matter if your question was legitimate or not, the thought of even crossing that line only meant desperation in that idea.

Nope. Miiverse is honestly overrated, it's like a message board from the 1990s ... just a bunch of random comments. I like how Miiverse is integrated into Mario 3D World, but I don't like going into Miiverse itself.

The Nintendo Land lobby feels more like a community.

my question was driven by curiosity, and to say the Wii U has no relevent games? it has got a very good library of games which is steadily improving. Not to mention one of the standout titles of the year and the most critically acclaimed.

Dude cmon, it's quite obvious that NSMB and every other Nintendo franchise on home consoles aswell as the home console itself would sell better if the handheld did not exist. It'd be the same deal vice versa infact. We know this because there is clearly high demand for Nintendo games due to handheld sales, yet the home console always sells worse, and in most cases, much much worse. That's due to people wanting Nintendo games and just Nintendo games. The consoles themselves are basically barriers you have to go through to access the games. So naturally, the majority of people choose the cheapest barrier, which is always going to be the handheld. If the handheld didn't exist, then people would have no choice but to get the home console, as that'd be only way to play Nintendo games.

You see, relevancy of a software is measured by how well it can sell hardware and 3D world was clearly a flop in doing that.
