The price thing is a surprise. The piracy, not so much! Seems like the handhelds are more exposed to piracy.

Here are the prices (in Real, remembering that now US$ 1.00 = R$ 2.33):

PS3 250 GB = R$ 900

X360 4GB = R$ 700 (R$ 850 with Kinect)

Wii = R$ 550

PS4 = R$ 4000

XOne = R$ 2200

Wii U = R$ 2200

DS = R$ 500

PSP = R$ 500

3DS = R$ 700~800

PSV = R$ 1100~1300

So it's normal for anyone to grab a PS3 or 360 instead of a 3DS or PSV. The price of games for these two is equal to PS360 game prices, so it isn't a good deal too. About piracy, it is huge on the Wii. On PS360 it is lower since it normally don't allow to play online (some 360 modded systems can actually play online even with a mod chip). It is lower on PS3 because of Blu-ray, since it requires to store the game on an external HDD and usually the download size is pretty harsh (10 to 50 GB) and the mod chips are more primitive. On 360 it is more common, but way lower than on PS2 days (when it was all the market). DS and PSP are dominated by piracy since youy only need to use a special card on DS or store games on memory cards on PSP. 3DS, Vita and the next gen home consoles don't have pirate games.

But I have to say, on PS2/GC/XB days piracy was rampant. Games were expensive as hell and it was even hard to find retails stores selling games. This gen the piracy is a minor problems because:

- Better console and game prices.

- Better retails presence. I can buy any game or console in stores close to my home.

- Online mode. Mod chips don't allow to play online or simple become a major pain (a modded 360 has a lot of problems with firmware upgrades and those are required by newer games).

I will not reply anyone directly because this forum have the worse quote system ever made. Actually, there is one guy that i want to responde directly

"I don't pay attention to Brazil."
It's ok, since Brazil don't pay attention to you too. Moving on...

About dance/soccer games, we are the the carnival/soccer country, what do you expect? :P Some time ago, a research revealed that the average age of the gamer in brasil is 20. In USA, it's 30. So, of course casual/kiddy games will have a bigger market share. Most of people still have their PS2 just to play PES 06 every now and then.

About wii, the only games that you find on reatils stores are mario games. Brand value here is huge, this is why kratos is on PS3 yet. Here, the only store that actually have some diversity is saraiva, a book store. The others only have mario's and licensed ip(games from marvel, scoobydoo, etc). Look at the top 10 of all time on wii, and you will problably find the same top 10 up there.

About actual numbers, in september we actually had more infos, like top10 across all plataforms, market share between 360 and PS3, but this month i couldn't find anything, just the plain rankings. Altough, since the 3 systems launched this november(yeah, WiiU included), i believe that we will actually have a more accurate numbers this time.

Is Brasil anywhere near Brazil?

Brasil is the correct... Brazil is what Americans uses because fits better the sound of the word "Brasil".

We live on Brasil... not Brazil (this word didn't exits in Portuguese).

Wow, I never heard that.  Reminds me of New Zeland and New Zealand.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Wow, I had no idea it was such a huge gaming market. Plus, it's growing much of it's own fuel, Brazil has many things going for it.

Thanks for the update! Keep 'em coming.

Any chance we could get some volume numbers next time?

They never tell numbers. I don´t know if it´s on pourpose of if they don´t because we don´t have an official consulting company to track sales

Awe, bummer.  Well, maybe someday.

The numbers in the states are going to more messy as we aren't yet tracking much digital sales.  And I read somewhere like 25% of the new Xbox One games people are buy digitally.  But I have no way at this time of researching that futher.

Yeah, extreme piracy tends to go when prices become more accessible.

Never thought things were like that there... strange how Vita`s price is way higher than 3DS. Here in Portugal, 3DS Xl is 199€ and Vita is going for 189€ or cheaper.

These prices, so i corrected some of then. But have in mind that is jsut the average price. in my city a wii cost around R$700 and a xbox around R$1100(250GB, tough)

And it's way harder to find 3DS or Vita games on retail. Most games are imports.

Yes, I tought Wii U was R$ 2200, actually is cheaper. I got the prices from online retail stores, since it's the "default" national price. If I go to the downtown of Rio de Janeiro I can buy a PS3 for R$ 700, a PSP for R$ 270, Vita for R$ 850, 3DS for R$ 700, X360 for R$ 600 and so on (most of it imports, of course).

Brazil is the English Language form of the Portuguese language name Brasil,  just like "Estados Unidos" and "França" are the Portuguese forms for the English name "United States" and French name "France". So there´s nothing wrong using  "Brazil"  when we´re talking in English.

Is Brazil really the 5th largest console market? I know that US is the largest, I think Japan comes in at number 2 and UK at number 3. Who is number 4? I assume either France or Germany, is Brazil really a larger gaming market than one of those two? I would have thought that Brazil would come in at like 10th, behind US, Japan, UK, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Spain, and Italy. If this is true, Sony made a big mistake on their PS4 pricing in Brazil, that had to have given the Xbox One a big advantage there, right? Which sold more in Brazil last generation, the 360 or the PS3?

As we don´t have numbers, and a good part of our sales numbers come from imports, we can´t say for sure where is our position in the console market. I don´t believe we´re bigger than France, Germany, but we´re probably bigger or at least on par with Spain, Australia, italy or  Canada. You know, Brazil is a huge country.

And 360 sold better than PS3, apparently, because it was easier to mod and run copycat games
