Forums - Nintendo - Vita ‘Is Destined To Sell Better’ Than Nintendo 3DS - IGN

Funny how quick people doomed the 3DS during in it's first year.

Funny IGN article from Oct 2011. lol

Gonna try and find some more 3DS doom articles.

Around the Network

DS was said to be destroyed by the PSP

3DS was said to be destroyed by the Vita

Expect the Nintendo's next handheld to be doomed too

Nowadays, we are all laughing at all those initial "3DS is doomed" rants. How the tables have turned, right? How many of you think that by this time next year we will finally be laughing at the "WiiU is doomed" fad. I surely hope so!

Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird.

To be fair, when this article was written, both consoles were the same price, the 3ds wasn't selling well, and we didn't know how expensive the vita memory cards were. But, looking back, it's still a funny read lol, i don't think anyone other than Sony fanboys thought that the vita was going to outsell the 3ds.

That was a 2011 article. Ah.

My first thought when I read the header was "Sure; in Bizarro World."

Nope, the 3DS got a price cut 2 months before. This was right before 3D Land and MK7 released.. yeah it's quite a stupid article.

Price was actually a pretty big issue.

It went from $249 to $169 six months after release and that was entirely due to the price announcement of the PSV. Let no one sane say that Nintendo planned to slash prices that soon or that deeply. To make that claim would be the same thing as saying Nintendo deliberately intended to rip off the early adopters as a part of their business strategy for the 3DS.

At $249, memory cards aside, the PSV gave a lot more for the same price at a time when the 3DS library was not such that it added great value to the 3DS.

Some people made some pretty ridiculous predictions as to how much the PSV was going to cost due to the hardware (as high as $600 if hilarious memory serves correctly) and when the $249 price was announced, pretty much everyone thought it was a steal.

The thing to take away from all this in 2013 is that it has been the library of games once again that determined sales for a handheld. But back in 2011, the 3DS library really wasn't anything that had even most Nintendo fans ready to buy one.

Aha so besides from Pachter, IGN also jinxed the Vita. Yes, I blame social media for no logical reason what-so-ever. lol!

This thread needs more posts . GO 3DS!

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

I remember reading the article when it came out. Colin Moriarty I believe... (without looking) Still cracks me up to this day.

Nintendo has proven that they completely own the handheld market.
