To be fair, when this article was written, both consoles were the same price, the 3ds wasn't selling well, and we didn't know how expensive the vita memory cards were. But, looking back, it's still a funny read lol, i don't think anyone other than Sony fanboys thought that the vita was going to outsell the 3ds.

Price was actually a pretty big issue.

It went from $249 to $169 six months after release and that was entirely due to the price announcement of the PSV. Let no one sane say that Nintendo planned to slash prices that soon or that deeply. To make that claim would be the same thing as saying Nintendo deliberately intended to rip off the early adopters as a part of their business strategy for the 3DS.

At $249, memory cards aside, the PSV gave a lot more for the same price at a time when the 3DS library was not such that it added great value to the 3DS.

Some people made some pretty ridiculous predictions as to how much the PSV was going to cost due to the hardware (as high as $600 if hilarious memory serves correctly) and when the $249 price was announced, pretty much everyone thought it was a steal.

The thing to take away from all this in 2013 is that it has been the library of games once again that determined sales for a handheld. But back in 2011, the 3DS library really wasn't anything that had even most Nintendo fans ready to buy one.
