Forums - Gaming - Am I the only one not impressed by graphics anymore?

The gap between PS3 and PS4 is bigger than PS2 and PS3. Killzone, Resogun, Driveclub and inFamous, these launch window games blow me away harder than Resistance back in 2007.
480p gaming to 720p gaming was a welcome upgrade, but going from 720p to PS4 1080p is just something else.

If launch window games look this good already I cant imagine how a Naughty Dog game in 3-4 years time will look.

I'm not impressed either - and I'm talking about footage from high-end PCs.

You should try Eyefinity or 3D Eyefinity or 120/144hz Eyefinity.
Once you game at 3x-10x or more the resolution of consoles and having the game taking up all your vision including peripheral... You will find it hard to go back, it would be like trying to game on a mobile phone.

The main difference however that gives the PC it's massive advantage, is mods. - They can take a pretty average looking game like Skyrim, Oblivion or Grand Theft Auto and make the games look better than next-gen, whilst adding a plethora of new content.

Sorry but I will always game on a TV. And gaming on several monitors with the borders dividing the image - I don't know how people accept that.

As for mods, I'm done with tickering with games to get them to work.

You can de-bezel monitors and Televisions to remove most of the bezel on a panel.
Personally, Bezels did annoy me initially, but you end up just ignoring it completely when gaming, those who complain about such things really haven't experienced eyefinity for long periods of time.

Failing that... You can use a projector or six.

You just can't achieve such things on a console, the immersion is fantastic.

As for mods, that's what Steam workshop is for. (When a game supports it, which is becoming more common.)
You look at mod, add it to the game and problem solved, no tinkering it's easier than buying a game actually.

PS4: 1080p (+360p)

So are you saying there was no improvement!?  I don't think something as simple as resolutionj defines the jump in graphics.

I mean, if you compare PS2 games at the end of the gen to PS3 games at the beginning of the gen, you have games like Heavenly Sword or Fight Night Round 3 that really raised the bar.  It was staggering.

That projector would be cool for my manor but it's still under construction :(

480P or 720x480 had 345,600 pixels.
720P or 1280x720 had 921,600 pixels. (166.666^% increase.)
1080P or 1920x1080 had 2,073,600 pixels. (125% increase)

Math is done.

There is more to graphics than resolution however.

I wouldn't mind a set-up like that either.
Problem is, finding the space! :P
