I'd like to see more hand drawn 2D graphics in HD resolutions. 3D is fine and all that, but feels a bit impersonal.

Agreed. I love games like Ni No Kuni and other anime-styled titles, and they've definitely come a long way in terms of visuals, but I'm still waiting for that "it feels like you're actually watching a Studio Ghibli film" effect.

It's all about the game.
It's because you're a PC gamer now. PC games look (and run) much better than these "next-gen" first year releases (which is a first, for any generation, actually.) Most XBO/PS4 gamers seem to be impressed with the higher resolutions and anti-aliasing, both of which are staples of PC gaming. They weren't playing in TrueHD last generation, and not even in "HD-READY", many games were less than 720p. Now they play games in >720p resolutions, and are impressed. Not to say there aren't other improvements right now, but they're very minuscule in the grand-scheme. The argument by console gamers is that with each year games will start to look better, well the same is even more true for PC games. For one, PC's have been well ahead of consoles for a while now, and have been limited by the console position as the main developing platforms. So there is much catch-up that will come by more advanced programming feats, but also when the consoles catch-up to today's performance, PC hardware will leave them behind.

Just imagine what Uncharted would look like on PC |
I dont understand how Ryse would have looked better on the ps4 when its own first party graphical flagship didn't look as good as it. Perhaps we should wait before we crown the ps4 graphical winner because right now now Xbox One is leading in that category. On a side note why the hell do Ea sports games all looks so bad? Madden looks like ass once you get 10 feet away from the players and white guys for some reason turn bright pink the farther you get away.

Im an avid pc gamer, and i am still blown away by Ryse. Everyone needs to atleast see it running in person its a technical feat. RIght now nothing compares, but there is one game on the horizon that makes me giddy like a school girl when it comes to graphical possibilities and that's Star Citizen. I am excited to see where graphics are going. EVeryone forgets that you can get much more out of a console than you can with a pc. I always like to reference games like far cry 3, game looks absolutely fantastic on ever platform. yes the console versions are lacking and well all know that they are 8 years old after all. But try and play far cry 3 on a pc with the same specs as the 360. It's impossible, it can't be done. Hell the game probably wouldn't even let you install it. If you did manage to install it and it didn't have a hardware check then you aren't getting any farther than the start screen.
When I played Ocarina of Time the first time, WOW. That was unreal.. I do still get appreciate the graphic leaps and enjoy them, but not as before. Art style can really cope now with HD and for me it's not the same WOW factor.
Well I guess I will have to eat my words a little bit. I just got Ryse today and I must say I'm pretty impressed by it. Chapter 3 in the forest is absolutely breathtaking. I would say this game looks better than Crysis 3 on PC, which I own. I don't have a PS4 so I can't compare Killzone but I'm sure it is up there with Ryse. This generation might have a few surprises after all. I can't wait to see Uncharted, The Order and Halo this year.

Well I'm not blown away like I was when I first fired up my PC earlier this year, but I am impressed. I still stick to my original statement that while I do believe games will continue to look better as this gen moves along I don't think I'll be blown away by anything. I think we're at the point where games just look great. I don't see how games can look much better than Metro: Last Light, Crysis 3, Killzone, Ryse etc. I know they will look better but I can't imagine any leaps over these games. We're not quite at cutscene quality but pretty close and recreating realism will be impossible since it would take 10 years to make a game. This generation is going to be all about gameplay, I hope.

Then just keep upgrading your PC and you will see the difference once again. This generation sony and microsoft played it safe and went for a low to mid ranged build for consoles but PCs will dwarf consoles for many years to come. Just go look at star citizen on PC, that game looks amazing.
