Forums - Nintendo - Wii to my PC monitor - how?

My monitor has Component plugs on it, so thats how i've done it.

If you want a spiffy new widescreen monitor to play on then id suggest that route, plus you can probably get one for $300ish

Proud owner of all next gen consoles and portables.

I still don't own a PS3 game

Well Ben you could always get a splitter of some kind so you wouldn't have to worry about switching cables every time you play or stop playing. My transcoder allows you to just have a switch between computer input and the console input. Of course it's meaningless to me as I use DVI for my computer and VGA for the Wii....

I use DVI for my computer as well...but I still would only have one thing on the monitor at a time...I guess that's not so bad...meh.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I don't know how you can plug it up to a Comp. Screen

But Here's a thought...
go to some where and purchase a tv
i see that lareves has a pretty good deal there

...

maybe that will do for you
Good luck anyways

You know, there are decidedly less expensive alternatives. Like a USB adapter. I got this one:

It works just fine, and supports S-Video as well as standard A/V. It's also about half the price of the previously suggested item.

The other links don't work to the site so here is the one I used to buy it.

Interesting. Though the USB adapter has a few advantages over the VGA adapter: you don't have to unplug your monitor from your PC, you can use it with other PCs (and with other A/V and S-Video devices), and it also lets you do audio and video capture. The lack of direct VGA support is a small price to pay, seeing as the Wii only looks marginally better in that than it does in S-Video.

S-Video doesn't allow 480p, which given the output will require deinterlacing, reduces the picture quality and causing potential lag. If he is only interested in using the Wii, this would be the better option:

Don't get the USB adapter. If it works for capturing video via software then there will be a noticeable lag hindering gameplay. There's a bad enough lag when you have more intense hardware like a capture card. Like I said earlier Dscaler can offset that but for some games it's still not responsive enough especially if you plan on something as fast paced as Smash Bros. Plus at that price the direct VGA cable offering 480p is the same anyway so you might as well grab that.

Hm. I think I have a spare monitor lying around somewhere, so perhaps I'll get one of those VGA cables myself...
