Though the USB adapter has a few advantages over the VGA adapter: you don't have to unplug your monitor from your PC, you can use it with other PCs (and with other A/V and S-Video devices), and it also lets you do audio and video capture. The lack of direct VGA support is a small price to pay, seeing as the Wii only looks marginally better in that than it does in S-Video.

 S-Video doesn't allow 480p, which given the output will require deinterlacing, reduces the picture quality and causing potential lag. If he is only interested in using the Wii, this would be the better option:
