I recall pikmin 3 and wii fit U being delayed, from first party titles. that's hardly many games. dk seems to be a strategic delay, so it doesn't count.

anyway, this is zelda. it was already stated by iwata that it wouldn't take longer than 3 years. + all the news about it being ready for reveal at E3 make a 2014 release the most probable one.

Ooooh right, I forgot that Nintendo planned for that game drought in the first year of the Wii U life, it's not that they couldn't get the games ready as fast as they wanted, silly me. Seriously just because a game didn't get an official release date doesn't mean it wasn't delayed.

Also a source for the bolded comment would be much appreciated.

Iwata stated that. if you want a source, google it.

considering nintendo almost showed the new zelda its safe to say that we can expect a new zelda next year if everything is going as planned...

Seriously? You make a statement like that and expect me to find the source? Dude, I don't have to prove that what you said is true I will just assume that it's not until you give me a source.

blame yourself. I won't bother doing that for you. and I think it was one of iwata asks.

"You have limited time and people, so there's bound to be something left over. But five years is a long time. (laughs) Can't you do it in three years next time?"

That obviously needs to be taken with a huge pinch of salt. I remember this being reported as Iwata seriously giving the Zelda team three years, so it's possible he made further comments I haven't seen yet, but this is what he said in the Iwata Asks.

I think they could hit a 2014 release date is they really wanted to (outsource the grunt work to an outside studio).

Skyward Sword will be 3 years old by then.

No one knows how big the Zelda team (EAD.3) really is.

A 2015 release date is more likely, but it isn´t entirely impossible (considering that Aonuma said that the new Zelda WILL be revealed at E3 2014) that they may hit 2014.

Please not that. We already has one, plus one in a three dimensional space.

But I hope that Zelda U gets released late next year, with DK in February, MK in April, and Smash in summer. They can't drag Smash until fall when they have no big first party games in May-October. It can very well for all we know be very far along in development, and be released november 2014. Skyward Sword was 2011, TP 2006, WW 2003, and MM 2000. I mentioned MM because it shows how long it took to a completely new generation, three years. Then three years to TP. Like another said, they could drag SS as long as they would due to Wii selling really really good in the meantime. And it took too long in my opinion. I remember when Wii launched, they announced at the launch of TP that the real Zelda Wii had been in the first stages of development for a year, from November 2005. That's something to think about.

Skyward Sword took so long because they literally started from Square Zero halfway though the development.

They changed artstyles and included the WiiMote+ for 1:1 sword controls.

Skyward Sword is the exception, not the rule.

Blame myself for what again? For you making yourself look like a liar, by making a claim and then not providing a source when asked? I'm really feeling horrible now...

@Asriel: Thanks for the source. I agree with you, that question is far from a confirmation. Iwata might have said more or that might've been the only thing he said about that topic cause let's be honest here, people on the internet love to take comments like this and blow them out of proportion.

He said it will be shown at E3, the reveal will probably be before that. and it looks like monolith is helping the zelda team too. anyway, I don't know why people keep insisting that nintendo won't have competence to finish this game in 3 years total.
