Also a few a did not mention, like a portable SNES? How is that possible? |
Yeah, I would only buy ones that have physical releases.
As an owner of a handheld I can respect the big N's foothold in the handheld gaming department, so taking Nintendo out seems like a pipe dream. But As a PsP, PspGo and now a Vita owner, I don't want to see Nintendo as the only handheld manufacturer in the business. Its not good for the handheld handheld market. Their handheld is not for me. Their main games, the Mario's, Kirby's, Zelda's, Donkey Kong, its just not my thing.I really love what Sony brings to the table game and genre wise.
So yeh, Nintendo can have the large share of the pie, as long as there is another that I can chose from, i'm good.
Lets not forget that the Psp sold over 80 Million units, that's not too shabby for the OTHER guy.
It's a shame the Vita isn't at least matching the PSP. Such a great and underrated handheld...
OT: Nintendo just understands handheld gaming. They continue to make great decisions with the hardware and software alike. The scary part is, most of the success is done without great 3rd party support. Imagine how much MORE successful the Ds/3ds would be if they got decent ports of multiplatform 3rd party games that could run on the system (basically everything besides shooters)
With Pokemon being the main system seller, Nintendo can't really go wrong. Because if all else fails, Pokemon will sell millions reguardless. It's a nice fall back, if you will. Oh and Mario.
Sony has never had that game that, if all else fails (which in the Vita's case already has), that it can fall back on. And Nintendo has 2!!!
Witness handheld greatness.

Tbh, I think Animal Crossing might join the ranks of Mario and Pokemon. Animal Crossing on handhelds sells shitloads.
They won't beat Nintendo as long as they have Pokemon. If somebody wants to beat them they need to make a franchise bigger than Pokemon.

True it sells, but when the next gen 3ds comes out (3ds 2 per say) the games that will automatically be hyped are Mario and Pokemon. That's what I meant. Animal crossing joins Zelda is terms of, it'll be hyped and sell well, but not the same system seller status of Pokemon and Mario. And really Pokemon and Mario don't even have to be good to sell, just in name it'll sell.
Nintendo's domination of the handhelds have put their console in a bad position. But yeah they are the kings of handhelds, something sony will never get.
