Forums - Gaming - IGN ''What Sony's '4.2 Million PS4s Sold' Figure Actually Means"

Rogerioandrade said:

Another unprofessional and biased IGN article with either incorrect or manipulated data.

Where are the holiday sales? Where are the handheld sales?

Why they say the Wiiu sold 2 million on its first weeks when official data points 3,08 million auntil Dec,13,2012 (5.5 weeks)

Why trying so hard to make XboxOne sales seems bad when actually they were pretty good?

IGN can´t be taken seriously anymore, I give up reading IGN long time ago.

From the looks of it they are only talking about home consoles/Next gen ones. That's probably why the handhelds are not there as for the rest of your post...I am not sure.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

Actually XOne is doing really well but only in the U.S. Sales in Europe are much less impressive, with PS4 outselling the XOne by 3:1 in the last two weeks.

No gain you say? What about the PS4/XOne version of games right now, on the system you are going to play on for years instead of and older PS3/X360. And get a superior version aswell. PS4 is only $399, no need to keep playing on a older system for saving $100.

If you are speaking of buying, today, a PS4 for $400 instead of a PS3 for $300, than i agree with you.

But if you saying that someone that already have a PS360, to pay a $400/$500 just to play a slightly better port of a game he/she can already play, than i have to say i think the appeal of that proposal is at least questionable.

It depends on the games i guess. If you're interested in COD, AC, FIFA etc. you might aswell pick those games on a new system right away.

Pains me that they can't do decent research. Just because Nintendo announced their financials in October doesn't mean they INCLUDE October, how the hell do they not know this??!!

to be fair, they did "estimate" WiiU sales to be as high as 5.2 million in the same timeframe. which seem pretty close

its amazing how their "estimation" is exactly like the VGC number

Sounds like it's written by an Xbox fan, tbh.

sounds its written like an idiot honestly. just the other day IGN called VGC morons or stupid or what ever. and now they are trying to use its WiiU estimate of 5.2 million sales, outstanding if you ask me. then they try to hide it by lowballing it saying it sold "between 4.5 and 5.2". and then they use the 3.91 million sales of teh WiiU and labels them as from octobor when the number was announced in octobor in the Quarter results and they are infact from end of september. add to that they keep comparing the sell through numbers of Xbox One and PS4 to shipment numbers of WiiU, ohh and their "own" estimate of sales, of course.

After all, you cant spell ignorant without IGN.

PS4 lower than wiiU confirmed /jk

It's IGN, the said analyse could have been made by a six years old with an iPad. But all these numbers sound good for Sony. Their manufacturing rate is really the best one.

Not even in portuguese you can say "ignorante " without ign.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

It's like they tried to make PS4 look better. They should have waited until Q3 results to fairly compare it. There's a 3 month difference in the Wii U and PS4's updates for f**ks sake!

It's simply amazing how the PS4 has sold so much with one OK exclusive and a Bad exclusive. Guess they just wanted to play slightly better multi platforms.

You guessed wrong.

There are many reasons to owning a console right away. First you have games from a new generation, which is something that doesn't happen that often, then you get prettier/better/bigger games. And don't forget consoles are investments in your gaming future. New games are released monthly, so not everyone has to wait.

I completely understand what you mean and yo uare right, but the only new and exclusive games the PS4 is getting soon iare Infamous Second Son and Drive Club. Personally, 2 exclusive games just aren't worth raking in $400 for. I'm planning on getting one later on when more games catch my attention. Everyone is diffrent and can be willing to pay $400 plus two good games earlier on, so I can understand your point.

But in the meantime, those folks are playing the definitive console version of the multiplatform games. And also, those "okay" and "bad" exclusives are being enjoyed by quite a lot of people. I bought FOUR retail games and have gotten several PSN games so I don't see how you came to the conclusion that people paid $400 for two good games.  There is definitely no lack of good games to play on the system had you purchased it at launch.
