Forums - Gaming - IGN ''What Sony's '4.2 Million PS4s Sold' Figure Actually Means"

Maybe this has been mentioned but the PS4 was actually launched a week after the XBox 1 in other regions. So IGN are taking worldwide sales and stating the XBox 1 launched 5.5 weeks ago compared to 6 weeks ago. That is only true for the US and I think the PS4 has sold a lot more outside the US. But then again, the PS4 launched in more markets that the XBox 1 hasn't had a chance to impact on yet.

True.  But, it doesn't really matter that Xbox One hasn't launched in as many countries.  Right now, each company is going to be limited by production.  Well, they are supposed to be.  MS seems to have overestimated the demand in EU, hence why they launched in fewer countries there.  However, the countries they did launch in are the big ones, and most likely the countries the 360 did well in.  If MS rounded up some of the extra consoles they have in stores, and shipped them to a few other countries EU, I doubt it would even equal an extra 100K for them.

@ OP

Not really getting IGN saying we don't know the demand for these consoles.  I think its pretty clear.  PS4 has sold over 4.2M, and there are still empty shelves WW, so there is still great demand for the system.  The Xbox One has sold 3M, and it is incredibly easy to purchase one if you want it, so demand has started to decrease already.

The thing is gonna fall so hard it will generate earthquakes.

Yet you wouldn't commit to that bet ;) you're going to be disappointed very soon.

I can´t bet to something that my rival can win in a matter of weeks, but for me to win would have to wait years.

Oh I see, you're already saying that WIiU will make a comeback in 2016?? You're ahead of the curve!!

Of course,Im Nostradamus the third. The second one was your father predicting he would have a stupid son.

And thanks to this i will be proudly banned   :D

My father predicted I'd be straight too, what can I say, I'm a disappointment :P

Don't let low WiiU sales rile you up so much, this is gonna be a long gen

I always thought the 3.91 Wii U LTD number included sales until September 30th and not October 31th.

You are right (30th Sep) but that won't make Wii U sales better

It's simply amazing how the PS4 has sold so much with one OK exclusive and a Bad exclusive. Guess they just wanted to play slightly better multi platforms.

People only buy consoles for what's currently available?

No, but they should.

This.......is possibly the silliest thing i have ever read. You expect people to not take into account that a console lasts years and a huge amount of games will be released for them in the future? People buy conssoles and then throw them in the trash after a few weeks?

No, but consoles lose value over time.

The more you wait:

- Better sku you can get

- Better Firmware

- Cheaper

- Better deals on Live/Gold

Consoles are not investments, you don't profit from rushing towards them.

If there is no game that you want to play right now, there is only to gain by waiting.

No gain you say? What about the PS4/XOne version of games right now, on the system you are going to play on for years instead of and older PS3/X360. And get a superior version aswell. PS4 is only $399, no need to keep playing on a older system for saving $100.

IGN was fast this time.Usually they take 3 days to post a news

It means they probably won the generation in worldwide sales even though it just started. Either they have to screw up really bad or Microsoft needs some serious system sellers to change that.

Another unprofessional and biased IGN article with either incorrect or manipulated data.

Where are the holiday sales? Where are the handheld sales?

Why they say the Wiiu sold 2 million on its first weeks when official data points 3,08 million auntil Dec,13,2012 (5.5 weeks)

Why trying so hard to make XboxOne sales seems bad when actually they were pretty good?

IGN can´t be taken seriously anymore, I give up reading IGN long time ago.
