Forums - Nintendo - Pachter: "I don't know why Iwata is still employed"

"Sony thrives, Nintendo doesn't" that should be the new name for the playstationnation thread

Serious note though, Pachter is useless, he said 2 years ago next gen MS would win easily...Now he is saying PS4...He is just going by current trends he doesn't know squat.

Maybe he doesn't realise the 3DS has 85% market share.

Seconded.  Also, several of the points he makes are glaringly true.

Cause the 3ds sold 1.2 million in a week

Honestly, aside from his insistence that handheld games should be going to mobile (3DS is doing just fine last I checked), I tend to side with Pachter on this one. Don't get me wrong, I think Iwata is the nicest, funniest, most professional CEO in the business, and he laid the tracks for the money trains that were the Wii and DS. However, Wii sales falling off a cliff in the last four years due to poor marketing and few games, the terrible mishandling of the 3DS' launch (leading to Nintendo's first operating loss in over one hundred years), and Wii U's sub-Gamecube performance so far can all, in the end, be traced back to him. It's really sad, but true.

The thing is, Japanese companies are quite different from those in North America in their relations with their staff. Yamauchi was with Nintendo for 53 years, and remained on its board of directors until his dying day. A company like this is highly unlikely to just let someone of Iwata's stature 'go', and he's unlikely to leave either.

Besides, there is ample opportunity still to turn things around. Maybe not for Wii U, but for the company as a whole.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

because he led the company to the most successful generation in the history of videogames?

Nintendo 1.8 million consoles this week, Sony 1.7 million consoles this week. How does that equal one thriving and the other not?

And the same guy who came up with the Wii U after their most successful console. If past achievements mattered, Ken Kutaragi would still be head of SCE.

Its a pitty yamauchi died
