Forums - Sony - Why didn't Big 3rd Parties give Vita the B.O.T.D.?

They didn't want to take the risk, Zero 3rd Party game was developed for the Vita this holiday "We have Batman Black Gate which is multiplat with 3DS" but anyways we need more of system sellers in the West, I think it's doing fabulously year-over-year in Japan, and 2014 is going to be even better !

There was also Amazing Spiderman and Injustice Ultimate. Yet these games are not the type of thing that is going to perform well. Amazing Spiderman is an old port on the cusp of the sequel hitting everywhere else soon with no added features for Vita. Injustice is at least at the same time as the other Ultimate editions.

Why? Why do they sabatage their Vita outputs before they even get a chance to sell? A.S. is going to perform very poorly and they will use that as a plateau to say "no need to make Vita games". Why not put all that time and effort to do a proper AS2 port along with PS3/360/PS4/3DS when a game like that is relavent? And Blackgate.......well as annoyed as I am with that being an up port from 3DS, it at least had the potential to be an original title using weaker handheld power to it's advantage.

In essense its not Vita Hardware that brings up cost, rather stupid people's expectations for it to look like Uncharted on PS3. I am totally content with games using stylized artistic directions like P4G, Bravely Default, New Little King's Story, Gravity Rush. Not everyone can do Uncharted GA, Killzone Mercs level of realism and should not be expected. Its a handheld, graphics are NOT a priority and they never have been in this space.

Exactly. Problem is that, from what I see, many people are like that. That's what I refer to in my Fire Emblem "comparison". Even though the Wii Fire Emblem is one of the best imo, it was mostly rejected by the consumers (and is the lowest selling title in the series that was released internationally).

I'm perfectly fine with stylized games, too. Heck, those games are my favourites. I love Fire Emblem, my favourite game of all time is Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, my favourite non-Nintendo series is Valkyria Chronicles and Vita's best game so far (imo) is Persona 4 Golden (also very high on my favourite game list), which doesn't really use the Vita's power.

P4G actually did good on the Vita (relative to it's userbase), and I think that is caused by that fact that only a very limited crowd ownes one. That's often the case with these kinds of games seeing that, for example, the GC Fire Emblem (Path of Radiance) fared better than the one on Wii (Radiant Dawn). The other people don't buy it [the Vita] because it's games supposedly don't match it's hardware capabilities in how they look.

Of course Vita has other problems, but I think this a problem still. Probably mostly a problem that Sony's initial marketing caused.

Add me if you like!

Ask me about 3DS Friend Code if interested. All other things are in the profile!

@Demflo

I agree with most of that.

Look at Atlus, they seem to be cleaning up on Vita. Take no risk, reap no reward.

Games sell hardware and hardware sells games.

Withe the PS3/PS4/Xbox 360/Xbox One, those were certain to have a huge userbase. Their fans buy their consoles based on the potential of things to come. With the success of the PSP (another console that 3rd parties assumed would do well) came some disappointment in software sales--aside from a few winners. It was also a device that required high production to take advantage of its power. The combination of expensive to produce games and the potential for PSP like game reception (due in no small part to piracy) led most 3rd parties to hold off. At the same time, the gamers held off from the hardware due to the combination of smart devices and portable gaming losing its cool.

I pulled that out of my ass. You like it?

cost barrier to produce games as well as piracy were both fixed when dealing with Vita. Supposedly, it takes less to build a game on Vita then it does to build a game for 3DS. A fully working game can be produced in a few weeks of development on Vita. Piracy is now non existent due to proprietary peripherals as well as tightly secured network.
