the game sdon't have to sell better than the other console's versions in order to profit. what's important is for third parties to release their games on wii u and build their base. this way the potential buyers raise not only as the installed base gets higher, but with each release they make. it's also important that the game isn't late or striped of content.

we can look at batman, Assassin's creed and call of retrocess (it's how i call the series. i  refuse to say "duty" to refer to something as disgusting as war), wich all had versions released at wii u's launch. they just got sequels on wii u, wich have the prospects to outsell their previous versions in much less time (while selling enough to grab some profit). any company in their right mind should see that and keep support, making sequels for those games sell better with each release over the years.

and all those games have a whole december ahead, with good prospects of outselling their predecessors in a shorter time.

They're tracking below their predecessors. Hardware sales will be down YOY, exactly why will they be up?

(They won't be.)

I already said, there's a whole december ahead. the predecessors were already in the holidays when they launched. plus, a bigger base should make the legs somewhat bigger too.

The success/failure of Wii U (home consoles) is more based on 3rd party support for the AAA multi-plat titles than the exclusive games.

EA and Take-Two control all the "sports" titles, and neither of them are on Wii U. I think based on this years sales for CoD, Skylanders, etc Activision might be out next year. Same for Ubisoft and others.

The Wii U will be a very niche system if it becomes an "only" Nintendo published titles console. Nintendo may need to start paying for the 3rd party ports of the key 3rd party games or pay even more later on to get them back in.

I don't think Ubi, Warner and Acti will quit on WiiU, unless those games start selling under 100k.

But these are the only franchises WiiU will get

Acti - COD/Skylanders
Ubi - Just Dance/Rayman
Warner - Batman/Lego

There are going to be dry months in the year when WiiU isn't even going to have a retail game release (unless it's something very low key like Cabala Hunting or w/e)

Nah, because even the first party stuff is MIA.

Good answer, but there are really only four games at the moment that could chart. And they do.

The Wii U is simply a system full of sales duds. Which should hardly be surprising based on past precedences.

Iwata and Reggie told me the system would do well...

Agree to disagree then and we shall wait and see!

Is the small install base I guess, and the fact that One and PS4 are more impressive graphically speaking.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I hate it when people bring up COD in this kind of argument. Do we not remember how fucking long it took for Ghosts to be announced on the Wii U? They didn't even bother adding the tiny Wii U logo at the end of any trailers. That alone makes any comparison totally unfair...

it doesn't really matter, COD is the biggest franshise in gaming last gen on 360/ps3, with the wii being to weak to hanldle a proper port it never got the games ported, except for one different version, the fanbase and online communty  are established on 360/ps3, it's gonna be impossible for those gamers to leave those and go to the wiiu when they can go buy a ps4 or xbbone brand loyality is still huge these days.

Pretty sure it would've gotten more sales if people even knew it existed. Sure not as much as the other versions but it would've had more than it has now.

I have some theories. First, 1/3 of wiiu userbase is inactive. Problably a child's present that not get used since last december. They just don't bother to use it again neither sell it. They problably forgot and regret the buy, so not lookinh foward for any game on it, even 1st party/exclusive.

Then another 60% areadly own another plattaform where third party games:
can be found in any store easilly all year
are not tied to the system, so is easier to buy it without worries
all their friend are playng there, so they will buy it to play online with friend too
Not lacking dlcs or content
Actually is on online store(activion games and ea are not avaible on eshop)
Is cheaper
better port than the one on wiiu
know that game is coming for then(wiiu logo trailer only found on eshop most of the times)

These category problably will only buy exclusive once in a while and use another console most of the time. Or, if the game make a great use of gamepad(good is not enough). They don't give up yet, just dont care about 3rd games on the machine.

Then you have the 10%, that actually want to use wiiu as a primary machine. But is so hard to find and be satisfied with the games that is near impossible, yet, when half of these player actually buy the game, it only sell 150k LTD.

There is no simple solution, thirds areadly are burned, consumers are burned too. Yet, i still think there is no use on trying to get thirds onboard, because they never support properly, and then say that its nintendo fans fault. 3DS rised as the best console of 2013 because nintendo and nitnendo only, so they must go the same way with wiiu. Third party will aways be on pc anyway, where is cheaper to get any game. While indies support the wiiu, i will be ok.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

thats is excatly the issue and third parties made the right choice, 360/ps3 = 160 million users, that eat up third party games, wii= 100 million users that mostly want motion controlled party games, and the were a generation apart when it came to power, so third part's didn't have a choice.

Please at the time PS3 was selling so shit that it looked like Wii would have 70% market share. So they did have a choice but chose to stay with trandition then explore the option of motion controls.  Try playing God Father and Resident Evil 4. Two ports early on put the most that followed to shame.

there is a lack of compelling 3rd party software on WiiU =P
seriously though look at the games that sell well, it dosent matter if its 1st or 3rd party. its all about quality exclusives.
As you can see games like ZombiU, MonHun, Lego City, Pikmin and Mario all did very well.

Wiiu gets 3rd party and they sell like shit
