Forums - Gaming - Why are some Sony fans so opposed to 3DS development?

stupid idea.

i Love the 3DS and Sony can stay off it thank you.

The future is mobile gaming regardless of what gaming forum keyboard warriors think and Sony getting the Jump on MS and nintendo and actually building good iPhone games (which can be done) is what they should do

You know the GBA was held back several years because Nintendo had no need to launch a new system right? So GBA actually sums up why competition is needed. PSP wasn't a sudden boom forwards in handheld tech, Nintendo just had no reason to progress whilst they had 95% marketshare.

I don't think the actual GBA was held back for several years, but even if it was, it was for the better. Historically, graphics on handhelds were about two generations behind home consoles, otherwise the trade-off with battery life and cost of the system was too big. So the GBA's SNES-like graphics in 2001 seem right on the money.

Historically they had parity. GameGear matched Master System, Lynx was more powerful than the Gamegear and Nomad matched Genesis.

However the drain on the battery and the form factor for this made it impractical and the Gameboy won out. Though even that was actually more powerful than the NES barring the monochrome LCD display.

It was only Nintendo's dominance and a lack of competition that led to handheld consoles being so underpowered in relation to home consoles. There has never been any technical reason for them being more than 1 generation behind. Heck, even the Nokia N-Gage as woefully conceived as it was, showed that PS1 visuals were perfectly viable even in 2003. It would take Nintendo another 2 years to release a handheld with similar power.

Don't get me wrong, Nintendo made shrewd business moves in not pushing technology whilst they had the entire market. Why bleed money into R&D and increased game development budgets? Also no amount of power, would ever match the quality of titles like Link's Awakening.

But SNES like graphics in 2001 was way behind the curve. The Nomad offered that in 1995.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Don't worry its going to happen. There is no way Sony can keep bleeding money like they have been.

The only real issue is that they cant really stand on their own as a 3rd party. Most of their games need to be bundled or discounted just to get over 4 million in sales.

Because I'd want to combine the strengths of both companies, not their weaknesses.

So Sony's weakness is game development.

Plus points for honesty.

So you just rape butts on the internet?

Sony drops Vita and develops for the 3DS.
Nintendo drops WiiU and develops for the PS4.

I'm okay with that.

I think Sony, MS and Nintendo should quit the hardware business. Wii U can't sell, Vita too, XOne only plays TV. They are a great fiasco. They should go third party and start developing to Ouya. Imagine how much Ouya units would be moved when they got Mario, Gran Turismo and Halo in next year hollydays.

If you mean that I kick ass, then yes, that's what I do.

That's what I meant, and it was impressive.

I'm not sure about this. Sure, more games is always a good thing but the 3DS has a such a big catalog of excellent games already... how many more can a platform have ?

At least googol (which is a 1 with 100 0's. Thats where the term GOOGLE came from)
