Yes, Bluray doesn't matter. That's why the PS4 and Xbox One aren't using Bluray.

It appears to me the only thing that motivated Sony to push Bluray was royalties and it made the PS3 signficantly more expensive. Had PS3 not included Bluray, it might have launched for $399.

Not everyone wants Kinect, but not everyone wanted Bluray either. So I ask again! Is forcing Kinect on people any different than Sony forcing Bluray on us for PS3?!

It makes sense to use Bluray now because it has become cheap technology.

Eitherway, a disc that holds more storage was going to become cheap by now.

No, I'm not saying people hate Bluray, I'm saying they hated the price that came with it. Espeically if you didn't really want Bluray.

DVD was cheap and effective, it made sense to use it.

PS3 games didn't really benefit in a significant way from the very expensive Bluray drive.

But the point against Kinect isn't just about price. It's also about the perceived lack of utility with the technology for gamers.

Not a convinience compared to digital download and by 2008 Blu-Ray format still wasn't fully supported, upscaled movies, and by then you could get BR players for $100.

I snatched a LG BR player in 2009 for $60, it still a beast collecting dust.

Even in 2008, the average price of Blu-Ray players were $300 dollars. Finding one for 100 bucks was, I'd say impossible.

I'm sure some people did. They shifted markets by releasing a console that cost twice as much, so some would resent bluray for this. But more prefered it to DVD given the sales.

There isn't a single game that absolutely needed Bluray. A few disc swaps could have made the PS3 as successful as PS2.


Blu Ray is the sole successor to DVD before the switch to full digital. Deal with that. Sony created camera based motion gaming  on consoles gaming and never deemed it necessary, but rather an option.

The only difference is that Blu-ray is amazing while Kinect is a complete piece of garbage.
