Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What do you want, or expect from Nintendo (Wii U) in 2014? <NOT A DOOM THREAD>

I myself would like them to do what they did during N64 era: find a new Rare and have games coming and coming. I apologize for PS1 only owners, cause if they have not played the 64, they did not know what a true revolution meant.

But it's now the third generation after the 64 and they only have Tokyo EAD and the small Retro. Not enough to keep games coming on a regular basis (the X guys and other ones are not exclusive as long as I know, though the games are). They should have much more studios working on U games at the same time. Monster Games are a very talented bunch but they have been doing 3DS only development for a while, which is a bummer for me.

More than anything I am looking for Nintendo to showcase new games which justify the touch screen gamepad direction they took with the Wii U. Where the gamepad touchscreen takes games to another level which isn't at all possible using the existing gamepad controls.

They could do a game that fully uses the U pad , but it wouldn't be a game that could work only on Wii U: it could work also on a 3DS with the optional 2nd stick (the 2nd stick being the only control a standard 3DS misses compared to Wii U) or on PS4 using PSV as a controller (the touchscreen on the controller being the only thing a standard PS4 misses compared to Wii U). An XBOne with a tablet as controller, though, couldn't exactly replicate the Wii U functionality and gameplay, as tablets lack physical sticks and triggers, or when they have some sort of sticks and buttons they are normally app-, not game-oriented.
A PC with the right peripherals could obviously match or exceed Wii U functionality, but teh Master Race comes at the price of lacking Ninty's kiddy factor, so Ninty shouldn't worry, they don't compete directly.

I want mature games.

I want the to go back in time and buy out rare, then we would have had some more great games on gamecube and wii like PD, Banjo, KI. All three would have been goof for wii u launch window.

I want a zelda with real gfx not cartoonish, mainly cause it won't appeal to the mases and core gamers that wii u need son their system atm.

I want 3rd party support LOLOL

The only thing currently available close to the Wii U from the competition is the PS4+VITA Combo. But that combination is simply too expensive and the percentage of user with both system is unlikely to be massive. While Wii U & 3DS share a similar control scheme, the power difference between the system is obviously immense. While the multiply ways the touch screen can used for gameplay could be shared between system. Some of the more technically challenging Wii U games wouldn’t be the same on the 3DS with the technical downgrade required.

I agree, my point was only that they couldn't claim conceptual and gameplay exclusivity for Wii U: it would surely be the most viable and sensible solution to have them on home console, but it couldn't use that exclusivity as a hype factor. Obviously this drawback would be smaller if such games were 1st party of Nintendo: in that case, despite the lack of conceptual exclusivity, the actual game, that is the practical implementation of the concept, would still be a Nintendo exclusive, and for most gamers this would be enough, and to counter this offer Sony should use a 1st party studio for a game that would have a small audience, at least for now and the short term future. And this takes us back to 2014: taking into account my objection, it becomes even more important for Ninty to make those games as soon as possible, so actually my objection doesn't deny your point, but in at least two aspects it supports it. Writing it I didn't see this at first.

Well I can't really disagree with anything you said there.

While I do think making games which sell the gamepad features are the most important step forward that Nintendo needs to take to make the Wii U more successful. I do however must admit I struggle to think of what type of games could use the Gamepad fully while grabbing the public imagination & attention towards the Wii U. I could see massive potential still in Motion control but for the life of me I struggle to see what games could make imaginative use of the touch screen. I got to hope Nintendo when coming up with the Wii U console design had some ideas for games to fulfil the potenial of the console.

I've learned to just wait for consoles, getting the at launch is all good and fun I guess but it doesn't really have that next gen feel until some note worthy games get released. Luckily we won't have to wait long though with Infamous for PS4 and Titanfall for X1.

Edit: now that I look at my previous statement it doesn't really answer the question at hand lol.

Oh, it's you again. Yes, you failed to answer the question at hand, but my expectations for you weren't that high :D JK JK JK

But to answer you (Ig)Noble, I completely see what you're saying and it makes 100% sense. You buy new consoles, you basically become a Beta tester. Droughts, bugs, faluty hardware, etc are all part of early adapter pains. Wii U kept me dry for months... I bought Legos in April, and that was it. Didn't even turn the system on until this Fall...
