I still think the average consumer thinks "WiiWho?". They think that it is the original Wii with a new controller, so why get it. This brand confusion is killing the WiiU and it won't change unless Nintendo does an incredible marketing and demonstration push to get the word out.

It is near the end of the end....

I stopped reading when you said it was set to sell more than the 64... considering its 2.77mil behind the GC id say its set to sell less than the GC

There were some fantastic games on the N64. The Wii U already has some fantastic first party games too. It's funny how XBox and Sony fans fight over specs and consider Wii U too weak to even argue about, and then Super Mario 3D World gets the best review of the year so far.

Beyond that, do people even *want* another Wii? Just because you bought Monopoly doesn't mean you're going to buy Monopoly New York Edition or whatever. Just because you bought a Britney Spears album six years ago doesn't mean you're going to line up and buy every new album she releases.

People may have just gotten their fill of Wii with the .... Wii.

Casual gamers are not like core gamers that accept linear upgrades all the time.

I've had casual gaming friends over who bought the Wii 4-6 years ago and had them even play Wii U and explained the controller and everything to them and while they've all had fun with it, none of them has gone out and bought one, whereas with the Wii some of them were willing to wait in a lineup for 2 hours to get one and were constantly asking me where to find a Wii.

Wii U is selling no where close to the N64.

As in not even in the same area code, ball part, soccer stadium, (whatever analogy you want to use).

The N64 actually sold fairly close to the original Wii in North America for its first 2 years. You could not find a N64 for holiday 1996, it was sold out everywhere, and its holiday 1997 was *monstrous*.

There is no GoldenEye equivalent (or even close) on the Wii U either and there likely never will be.

Wii U is a lot closer to the GameCube, right now it probably needs Mario Kart 8 just to get to GameCube sales levels, as of right now its selling considerably worse.

This chart gives such a good summary of just how bad Wii U's software has been.  It also makes me think of how different things were when I was a child as I gobbled up the SNES launch lineup (which also had titles like SC4 and FF2(4) ) and was chomping at the bit for Zelda and SF2.  As an adult who doesn't have a tonne of gaming time, I barely noticed the Wii U drought... but I digress.  On the plus-side, at least 2014 looks more like the launch years of the earlier systems, with MK8, DK, SSB, X, B2 and others.

The 2nd half Wii U line up is fairly strong though.

It has 3D Mario World (highest rated game of the fall) and Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Wii Party which should be bringing in casuals. It has OK support titles in Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, etc. as well this fall.

If NSMB + Mario 3D World + Wii Sports + Wii Fit + Wii Party + Mario/Sonic (which represent I think six of the top selling Wii titles) can't even boost Wii U sales to GameCube levels, then something is very, very wrong.

X and Bayonetta 2 are not going to sell any more than Pikmin 3 and that's if they're lucky these are non-factors, DKC (unfortunately) probably as well (what's DKC supposed to do that Mario 3D World and NSMB couldn't?).

Mario Kart and Smash Brothers are really the only market impacting titles I can see for the Wii U in 2014. Maybe that Pokken fighter if it has NFC toys. Third party development is likely going to dry up in 2014. So it'll basically be on these two/three games to sell the entire platform.

Why not just accept it as the WiiU? who gives a shit what others say and how sales are now? I love the WiiU for what it is and what it has offered me so far!

loving Mario 3D world!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Calling it the wii-u biggest mistake they did in the last 8 years

Not Gamecube 2, because GC was the most "normal" console by Nintendo. Quite comparable to other "classic" as in "dead boring same shit as always" consoles. N64  2, because like the N64, the Wii U is not quite in the same performance ballpark as the competitors. N64 was kind of half a gen ahead, Wii U is half a gen behind.

Both consoles came out with an interesting and different approach to what you have in your hands that was never used before as a main input for gameplay mechanics.

N64 sold about 33 million ? And Wii U is set to sell the same ammount.

Both consoles had horrendous 3rd party support, which forced Nintendo to pump out collaborations with studios and push its own games to the platforms.

N64 was home to the first true FPS on consoles and a true 3D platformer done right.

Wii U will be home to something Nintendo will come up, that neither Sony or Microsoft can match with their tacked in tablet integration and Vita laggy stream.

With that said, if you are an hardcore occasional gamer, just a Wii U is gonna be fine for you. If you are an hardcore addicted son of a bitch without a life, you gonna need one more console, or PC to fullfil your gaming needs, because Wii U is just another N64.

The sooner you accept it, the faster you will reach inner peace, and enjoy the ride.

You're joking right? The ultra 64 had: Mario 64, Ocarina of time, majora's mask, goldeneye, perfect dark, the first smash, mario kart64, wwe wreslamania and even resi2 in  just one cartdrige, among other gems.  I wish the wiiU was the n642, wake me up when that happens.

N64 was one of the greatest systems, so this is good news!
