Forums - Nintendo - In a betting mood: I say Zelda U won't look like the 2011 tech demo

It'll look like a cross between Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess. Calling it right now.

Considering ALBW, I'm expecting something more traditional. It will be a modified Ocarina artstyle.

It's confirmed that it won't look like it.

No it isn't. Aonuma only said that it's not guaranteed to look like it, that they are "exploring many styles".

This. Aonuma never said that it won't look like the tech demo (but never said that it will)

Personally I'd prefer something like TP but it wouldn't bother me to see it looking like Skyward Sword.

@Pavolink  I would LOVE for you to be right about this.  Time well tell...

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I really want them to use the same sort of style they used for that tech demo. It'd be a shame if they didn't.

The tech demo looks like it was done by the Tokyo team, it has that "perfect", almost plastic look that the characters in SM3DW have. Zelda U won't look like that, but I would expect a look that is at least moderately "dark" like TP, because that sells, and you can bet that Iwata is telling them to make what sells. I also wouldn't be surprised if it looks a bit like ALBW. But if we really want to guess at the all-new look of Zelda U, I would suggest browsing the art world. In the past they used old Disney style animation and watercolor... I could see a new art style being used for inspiration. Claymation or puppets? Ancient Greek paintings/sculptures? Origami? Renaissance? I think there will be a hint of something from the art world.

Good to know that nobody agrees with me about the whole Kingdoms of Amalur art style thing. Here I thought it delivered the best of both worlds (real and surreal) more so than the typical fantasy game.

Not a huge fan of that look.  I would like something a little more subdued.... my dream would be this look:

Deja vu from the GameCube days. Show an awesome tech demo then roll out some wired looking art style. Artstyle was never discussed until Aonuma took the reigns. Now we don't know what the heck Zelda will look like. Ridiculous.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

A black cat just walked across the room and it will do so again. Fuking Eiji Aonuma.

Well, OoT/MM is my favorite Zelda 3D Artstyle, and the one that I feels more Zelda. Even more than TP.

TheLastGuardian.pic

Which looks fine for a somber-seeming game like The Last Guardian.

But I don't think it would do the personality of the Zelda series any more justice.

Probably won't, everyone knows to never trust tech demos.

Aonuma makes what HE WANTS and not what the FANS WANT.

Ehhh... he seems pretty open to fan criticism in all the press he does.

I wouldn't have believed this BS 20 years ago and I sure as Hell wouldn't believe it now. Aonuma is to Zelda fans what Sakamoto is to Metroid fans: Full of shit excuses, yet able to capture a few apologists who believe his "genius" isn't appreciated so they champion everyone of his efforts like it's gospel. His games are lame and by association the modern Zelda fan is as well. [/thread]

It sounds to me like you are stating the bullshit you want to hear, and completely ignoring reality.

Please explain to me what reality I'm ignoring. He (Aonuma) has gone on record saying that he hated both the SpaceWorld and E3 2011 demos. The modern Zelda fan has accepted his "genius" and that is why Zelda will continue to wallow in mediocrity. Miyamoto needs to wake the fuck up and upend every tea table he can find to right this ship because as of now it is on a course of disastrous proportions.

The same can be said for the Wii U.
