Forums - Nintendo - In a betting mood: I say Zelda U won't look like the 2011 tech demo

It's confirmed that it won't look like it.

I ain't gonna bet, but I will say that while it doesn't have to look exactly like the tech demo, I absolutely want something more along those lines than WW. Personally, I really loved the look of Twilight Princess, and felt it was a natural evolution of the OoT look. I'd like to see something along that line, just in HD. More colors are always welcome, but I'm not sure I necessarily want the pastel look of Skyward Sword either.

No it isn't. Aonuma only said that it's not guaranteed to look like it, that they are "exploring many styles".

This mentality bothers the hell out of me. Why the hell would/should it look like another Zelda game? OOT and MM are part of a stylistic set. WW, PH, ST, MC, FS, and FSA are part of a stylistic set. TP and SS are part of a stylistic set. Those styles are over and done with. I don't understand why or how anyone would or could expect a new premier Zelda on a new generation Nintendo console would look anything like ANY prior Zelda game. Why can't people be excited to see a brand new art style unlike any prior Zelda games? Especially when Aonuma has stated on numerous occasions that he wants an unexpexted art style. Even ALBW's artstyle is different from ALttP.

I will seriously be annoyed if this new Wii U Zelda doesn't have a completely new art style. I don't care how dark or bright or chibi or realistic it looks, as long as it looks completely different from the others. I'm talkin Ocarina of Time to Wind Waker to Twilight Princess to A Link Between Worlds different. Not Ocarina of Time to Majora's Mask. Not Wind Waker to Phantom Hourglass. Not Twilight Princess to Skyward Sword. Those are basically just repaints.

Skyward does not look like TP.

...I hope that's a joke. Skyward Sword is what Twilight Princess would have looked like if it OD'ed on highlighters. Just as blurry. Just as goofy looking. Just brighter. Not a bad artstyle, but not a different one from TP. Just recolored with some different designs for the baddies. Same looking overworld. Same looking Link. Same looking games.

If Nintendo made a prequel to Wind Waker, but made the textures realistic and dark as opposed to cell shaded and bright, and changed the designs for the Moblins, but kept the overworld and character models basically the same, no one would call that a new art style. They'd call it what it is. A recolor of Wind Waker's artstyle.

And don't try to bring up that they redesigned Princess Zelda. They redesigned her in Minish Cap, too. That game's still in the Wind Waker style. Skyward Sword is still in the Twilight Princess style.

...I hope that's a joke.

Hello everyone, I'm new in the forums (not that new... I was lurking for more than a year before I decided to sign in)
I don't want to bet, it is really hard to guess considering Nintendo's situation, history tell us that they don't make the games like the tech demo.

In my opinion, given the circumstances they might want to appeal to some broader audience showing something unique like they did with Wind Waker, I'm just crossing my fingers waiting for something that looks awesome! (please Nintendo surprise us with something really amazing!).

ps. Please excuse my poor english.

This. Aonuma never said that it won't look like the tech demo (but never said that it will)

Personally I'd prefer something like TP but it wouldn't bother me to see it looking like Skyward Sword.

I don't think it'll look like the tech demo or Wind Waker. Maybe something akin to Skyward Sword, since its art style would look ridiculously good in HD. I've always wanted a painterly Zelda ever since I've played Okami, so I'd be down with that.

Still, if I were in charge, I'd try to rip off the Kingdoms of Amalur art style. I love it.

I think it's a lock that the tech demo will not be what is eventually shown. That being said, the best thing about Zelda is the overall uniqueness of each game. The most similar were OOT and Majora's Mask but even those had completely different moods, it was just limited by the console. This is why Nintendo is still the best because they are the only company that still feels mysterious to me. You know what you are getting out of EA,Naughty Dog,Microsoft, even Bethesda for the most part. (not saying they don't make great games, just that they tend to fall within their comfort zones), but Nintendo always ends up throwing me for a loop when it comes to Zelda and usually Mario. I was shocked at how unlike 3D Land, 3D World is and it left a smile on my face all weekend.

The fact that they released Wind Waker is to me enough reason to believe the original WiiU game won't be cell-shaded. They said they released it only because they liked the look of it in HD, when they were trying out different styles in HD. That means they had decided on something else but regretted the fact that no-one would be able to see how cool the cell-shaded graphics looked in HD. So they released Wind Waker HD also. If they would have chosen a cell-shaded style for the WiiU game, I think they would have released Twilight Princess HD instead.

Not saying they'll use that style 100% (and thus the tech-demo style 100%), but I think they will lean towards the more realistic side. I agree with those that say the Skyward Sword style will have it's influence, simply because the painter-style would look amazing. One things for sure though, it'll look 'better' than the tech-demo. That's always happened until now.

it will be anime'ish. A little darker than skyward sword
