Forums - Sony - Guerrilla Games - Horrible design choices

Crytek also made the original Far Cry which got pretty stellar reviews.

Like I've said before, their critical ratings are largely similar.

I think Crysis games and Crysis Warhead is their best game, are overall are better games but have been getting worse and worse.  You have people that think killzone is better, and Shadowfall is the best. But, you can play that game forever and keep going in circles.

The comparison of them being stellar at graphics, but inconsistent criticwise, and a downward trend is spot on.

Crytek
89 -> 91 -> 84 -> 85 -> 76 -> RYSE :P

Killzone (I didn't put liberation).
70 ->  91 -> 84 -> 78 ->  74

Don't compare them to Crytek. Crytek makes actual crappy games, while you just dislike Killzone.

I do agree somewhat though with the controls. They should have taken the opportunity to reinvente the gameplay to cater more to that "COD" fanbase. It really hurts me to say that.

Cause that really helpped with Resistance 2 and done wonders for the series.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

for the love of god no. CoD's gameplay is awesome............ in 2007. not its just outdated. it feels like floating around with a gun more than having heavily equipment on you. gun balance is a joke and spawning is horrible. the gameplay is way to dumbed down and easy. if devs want quality they should stay away from CoD gameplay. unless they want to release the game in 2008.

I didn't mean cut and paste. Pretty much, take the clunky and heavy feeling out of Killzone and make it a bit more fast pace. Mainstream gamers love fast pace because they have the attention span of a squirrel with ADHD.

that would be the stupidest thing ever. this franchise wont ever reach the sales level of CoD or BF, halo or even close to them. it has its audience and its been enough so far for it. dont change the gameplay dramatically just to try to appeal to a crowed that wont buy the game either way and at the same time alienating the core fans of the game. they should make a new IP if they want to have a shot at a bigger audience, and that is what they are doing

. The gameplay is sorely lacking is has been since KZ2. They've never aced the controls. FPS view cameras are supposed to be controlling your EYES to look around, not your entire body. Hence, you should be able to look around very quickly. The weighty feel in all KZ is ridiculous.

You should play ARMA you'll take that whole "move with your eyes" thing back, ARMA is a simulator, the twitch controls you like are not, Killzone isn't a.simulator either but I can take it controls and style over say resistance any day, I like the kz style. "hard scifi" not many shooters do this they're all generic sci-fi, unless you count deus ex as a shooter ( it's not)

I haven't completed it yet since I've been busy but from what I've played so far the story is weak, the single player campaign is lacking shooting segments, the game is still rather linear compared to what they were promoting, and the multiplayer is lacking game modes. Even with customizable warzones it still feels like it should have come with operations, maybe another mode, and more objective types for warzones than what they have.

Basically, Guerrilla Games is the kind of company that can't be rushed and unfortunately they were on a deadline to have it ready to go by launch with a focus on making it as pretty as possible. The single player would have likely still suffered a bit but the multiplayer would have likely been a lot more robust for the same price. It was a graphical showcase for the console.

I think they need a change of pace and new writers though. A step away from first-person shooters and going into a genre they haven't done yet might give them a stronger perspective and more experience. They've shown in the past that they have what it takes to be a top ranking studio within Sony. I just don't think they've found their real calling yet.

I'm playing Shadow Fall now and IMO, the controls are solid. KZ2 to me had the worst controls. Controls was way to over responsive. I had to fight with the controls during battles way too much. Games are supposed to be about fun and the controls were all but that. SF has bad pacing, Graphics are solid, story is on point, sound especially through surround+controller are superb, but the pacing just seems off. Hope it ends well though.

After the first 5-6 chapters in Shadow fall, I was thinking best KZ ever and a great fps..then that chapter you sky jump onto that planet, game changed totally and ended up being terrible. WTF were they thinking?

Sony needs to scrap KZ and start over for an exclusive FPS.
