Pathetic site is just that, pathetic and with there credibility they should be removed from meta scores for all platforms..

Because Microsoft gives them lots of money.
At the end of the day, as a site, they should have some kind of grading consensus, because there are only a handful of entertainment critics with some name recognition that you can trust as reliable, and Polygon is not there yet. When someone like Roger Ebert says your favorite movie sucked, it was okay because you knew the man had some principles and had earned respect when it came to his critiques, so you could just chalk it up to differing opinions.
But, if you know a game is coming out that is highly-anticipated and apparently with great production values, you don't hand the review copy off to someone who doesn't like that sort of game, and then proceeds to give it a low score. That's just being that moron who says they didn't like 'The Godfather'. Yeah, your completely entitled to your opinion, but that doesn't make you right. You just end up sounding disconnected from what actual gamers are saying.
And this isn't some pro-Sony thing. If Titanfall ends up getting a low score from Polygon, when the universe and your mother knows it's going to be a good game, there's no need to have that one person who didn't like it officially review it on behalf of your website or publication. Because that's what leads to Halo 9 and God of War 7. How about giving these companies a bit of a break for trying to do something new and introduce new IP's. Is that too much leeway to give them?

Although, Polygon did give The Last of Us a good score. 75+ is considered postive on Metacritic. :P It's akin to saying "I like The Godfather" as opposed to "I love it".
I get quite tired of people acting like anything under 8 is trash.

Polygon gave Ryse a 6 - 0,1 lower than avarege meta score, Dead Rising 3 a 7,5 - 0,3 lower than avarage meta score. LocoCycle and Crison Dragon both 4. - 0,8 and 1,5 lower than avarage meta score. Is that enough? Is this fair? |
You made an excellent point. Of course they can't give by average worse scores to Sony VS Microsoft, but they do on occasions rate lower some Sony important games and rate higher others less important:
TLOU was an important Sony game: rated 2.5 less than metacritic
Killzone was the most important Sony game at launch: rated 2 points lower
Forza was the most important X1 launch game and they gave a 9/10 score, almost 1 point more.
Resogun was not important, indie game: rated even higher than metacritic (because they have to up that Killzone downed average scores...)
COD on PS4 rated 0.5 lower for inconsistent reasons than X1 because it is a really important game for both companies.
LocoCycle and Crison Dragon are given low scores to re-equilibrate Forza and maybe upcoming high scores for important X1 games from Polygon.
They are smart at Polygon and know people in forums make averages of their scores. Serious theory.
It's quite simple; the proof is in the pudding. On average, they rate XB exclusives higher than their metascore, and PS exclusives lower. Sure there's a few exceptions here and there, but that's about the standard for them. Their completely biased., like a lot of popular review sites.

wrong answer:microsoft giving them money does not make them automatically big.
The mechanics :how out of nothing something can get such a market share is the interessting point.
And i'm not just talking about games as there are more important things like propaganda on a bigger scale, like newspapers,tv stations
Banking families buying entire newsstructure like reuters and associated press etc.
you may find the answer in noah chumskys propaganda modell & oscar galloways speech at the US congress about jp morgan.
@globalisateur
Do you realise that it´s not the same guy reviewing all those games?
You can do the same audit in every major game site. Plus, not every site is required to rate a game exactly the same way others do.
For instance, a movie given a 7,5 is considered a very good score, 9s and 10s are reserved for masterpieces. And every one is free do disagree that Lord of the Rings is a 10 or a 9 or lower if you are not into epic fantasy. You can even say that "Waterworld" was enjoyable brainless adventure or "The Godfather" is overrated not doing jsutice to the book (yes, I have said that on some cinema foruns, and people didn´t offended me).
There is a distorsion of what people expect for games reveiw. The ultra high score we saw this past generation are a anomaly not a thing that should be praised.
wow some fanbases have way too much time on their hands. Its a review site, they can give a any game whatever review score they want.
Im sure if you look at any site that gave TLOS 10/10, you will find Sony endorsed them at one point.
And as for the title, ahve people forgotten about Quater to Three and Bigpond Arena???

What a bunch of hacks. They gave rise a 7 initially. If it now a 6 they changed after the fact._ prob because all the other scores were so bad. At least they are making some effort to hide thier bias
