What the hell are you talking about?
I'm hungry...

Damn that sucks. How many hours do you think you played before it bricked? Were there any warning signs like a noisy fan or excessive heat before it went out?

You shouldn't have even bothered. He isn't going to believe you. Next he'll be like bring it to my house and test it on my electricity lol
The point about extended warranty that ben is talking about, is that IF new consoles are having problems, it's very likely that in manufacturing error, some consoles may simply be more resilient. That being so, a "weaker" console may die today, and a stronger one in a year.
The problem is, the defect is there, so it's really not a question about IF, but a question of WHEN.

IGN has a troubleshooting Wiki. Maybe you should see if any of their solutions work for you, if you haven't already.

I guess the best thing Sony can do at this point is to try and get ahead of the story, extend the warranty of the launch units past a year, pin point where these manufacturing problems are occurring and try to fix them asap, at least before years end/Japanese launch.

Agreed 100%.
Microsoft extended their default 360 warranty to 3 years in response to the RROD fiasco, and they were still profitable by 2010 even with a 54% failure rate and FAR bigger loss leading than either console this gen (albeit not as much as PS3).
If problems are really as low as Sony is saying they are (and I don't believe they are, but I certainly don't believe they're as high as 54% or 40%, either), then extending the warranty can only INCREASE profitability by increasing software sales thanks to more people buying a PS4 due to feeling secure about their purchase.
