Forums - Microsoft - Hackers Successfully Dump Xbox One Game Disc

dumping a disc is easy. (I guess the big surprise is they already have a disc?)

Getting it to work... now that, is hard.

I guess it ain't the same but it's still amazing but not surprising that people are trying this already. Xbox One will still likely be the first next gen console to be hacked anyway

Hmm, somehow I doubt it because getting hacked didn't really happen to 360. There were complicated ways to play backups but it was never really widespread like the first Xbox. ODEs came out late in the console's lifecycle and still are seldom. PS3 however *got* hacked, hackers did an amazing job to "open" the console. Still it was PITA to play backups because of the size.

So "hacked" always mean breaking the security system but being able to play backups you don't need to break the security system.

I still think it's PS4 which will get hacked. It uses freebsd which is known to many hackers (well, it's a bsd after all) and Sony has a huge record of producing faulty software.

They didn't only dump, they could recognize the disc structure with offsets which is more than just a dump.

Dumping was never as easy as with PS3 and Linux, btw.

dd if=/dev/$bluray of=/someplaceondisk

Wait seriously walsufnir... That was that easy "dd if=/dev/$bluray of=/someplaceondisk" ??? And people dare to say MS security is bad... Well I use to be a big anti MS in the 90s like any nerdy kid... But once you learn a little and build your own opinion you realize MS is far from being the biggest Ahole in the room and certainly the weakest and less secure solution... Quiet the opposite most of the time considering the difficulties they face...

and

Sure

But as I said this has nothing do do with hacking or pirating.

Yeah, that's very similar to my biography. Back in the 90's we all hated MS so bad... By the time 98 was released I switched to Linux and only had 98 on a seperate disk to game on it while understanding computers and operating systems with a "real" os But really, MS isn't that bad in my view nowadays, there are much worse companies out there!

Expected since that's the easiest step.
The next one is going to be way harder.

Poor MS.. even in this race they lose against Sony..
