Forums - Nintendo - What games do you think Nintendo is going to release for the Wii U in the future that have yet to be announced?

A family friendly Mario FPS would be the laughing stock of this generation.

Around the Network

Assuming the Wii U has a Six-Year life cycle, ending in late 2018, here's my best guesses for major Nintendo titles for the rest of the platform's life.

2014

  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (February)
  • Mario Kart 8 (Spring)
  • Super Smash Bros 4 (Summer)
  • Bayonetta 2 (Summer)
  • X (Holiday in Japan)
  • Mario Party 10 (Holiday)
  • Yarn Yoshi (Holiday)
  • Pokemon Spinoff from Creatures (Holiday)*

The first half of the year will see more system sellers, including DKC, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros. The second half may be remembered as the beginning of the second Wii U drought, especially if X takes its time getting out of Japan like Xenoblade did. Nevertheless, there will still be notable games, including the long-awaited Yarn Yoshi, Mario Party 10 (the first iteration in the series for the Wii U), and possibly a Pokemon spinoff focusing on X/Y versions. Perhaps we'll see a Pokemon Ranger or Pokepark title on the Wii U. Oh, and Bayonetta 2.

2015

  • Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (Winter)
  • Wii Fit U2 (Winter/Spring)
  • The Legend of Zelda U (Spring/Summer)
  • Kirby (Summer)
  • Animal Crossing 5 (Holiday)
  • Pikmin 4 (Holiday)

2015 would be notable for having more smaller titles. Wii Fit U2 is likely to already be in the works, and 2015 is a likely release date for Zelda. Beyond that, this would also be enough time for SMTXFE to finish development. A Kriby game frtom HAL after Triple Deluxe could possibly be done in two and a half years using the same basic engine, Animal Crossing 5 would be done within two years time, and Pikmin 4 would also have over two years of development.

2016

  • Retro's next Project (Winter)
  • Paper Mario 5 (Spring)
  • Super Mario 3D World 2/Galaxy 3 (Summer)
  • Mario Party 11 (Holiday)
  • Luigi's Mansion 3 (Holiday)

I doubt Retro's spent all their time working on Donkey Kong for about three years, so I'm only giving them two years for their next game, possibly Metroid or a new IP. Meanwhile, Intelligent Systems could make the fifth Paper Mario title, possibly the THousand Year Door sequel people have wanted for nearly a decade. A new 3D Mario is also likely around this time, that is about 2 and a half years after 3D World. As for the holidays, Next Level could bring Luigi's Mansion back to the consoles while Nd Cube makes the second Mario Party for the system.

2017

  • Nintendogs-like game or new IP (Winter)
  • Rhythm Heaven U (Summer)
  • The Legend of Zelda U 2 (Holiday)

I expect that, if Zelda U is a hit to even the degree that Wind Waker was, that a new game would be built reusing the same engine and many assets, similar to Majora's Mask. It would also help to keep the overall costs of making the series on the Wii U down, since like with Majora's Mask, a smaller team could make the game in less time. Besides that, 2017 will be the beginning of the end for the Wii U. The Mario kart team might bring a Nintendogs-like experience to the console, and SPD could release a Rhythm Heaven game similar to the one on the DS. However, 2017 will likely mirror 2011 in terms of big releases.

2018

  • Good-Feel's platformer (???)
  • Mario Party 12

Good-Feel would develop the swan-song for the Wii U, a platformer most likely. Perhaps they'd go back to Wario, or make Epic Yarn 2. MP12 will make some easy cash. The real investment in 2018, however, will be in Nintendo's 9th generation system. Perhaps early titles will include a 2D Mario, Super Smash Bros 5, and Donkey Kong Country 6?

In actuality, I expect Nintendo to at least publish more games than this. These are just my likely candidates.

More Mario, Zelda, etc..... is pretty much guaranteed. Other than that some new IPs would be great to see.

This. Even though while I say "This" to your comment I somehow think it would get good reviews.

I hope we get more third party partnerships...
And some great first party stuff obviously...
I hope they reinvent an old IP like they did with Kid Icarus...
If they want to make a shooter they could revive Gumshoe or Hogan's Alley...
They could make a Duck Hunt eShop game...
If they don't want to make new IP's, they could at least give one we haven't seen in a long time...

Have a nice day...

To be fair, Star Fox Adventures was well received critically, and it sold pretty well considering the install base.

Not saying you're wrong about Nintendo opting for on-rails, but Star Fox Adventures didn't receive a horrible reception, critically or commercially. Even Assault, which fared worse with critics, sold over one million units.

Huh never knew Adventures got so many high scores, I actually own it, but couldn't force myself to finish it.  I just assumed it was reviewed bad.  Tbh I'd rather have Assult just for the first mission lol.

I just hope we get some kind of Star Fox game. It's too good an IP to gather dust. I think Retro would be the ideal candidate to resurrect the series.
