Going 3rd party isn't such a bad thing. Sega has been quite successful since doing so.

If the Wii U turns out to be a failure. I'd like to see Nintendo just make a handheld device and home console compatible with the same game carts. Kinda like Vita and Vita TV.

the problem is who is gonna support nintendo next console, except for nintendo, especially after having some of the worst thirdparty software sales in history.

Who will support Nintendo? Nintendo and a few other developers that manage to get decent sales on Nintendo platforms.

Nintendo platforms don't rely as heavily on 3rd parties as Sony or MS.

why do you say this just cause cause of the wii, things have changed nintendo needs heavy third party support now, the playing field has changed just look at the wiiu sales, heck look at the gamecube as well.

if that was the case then gamecube, n64 and wiiu would have sold amazing just like the wii. the wii was the wii cause of the motion controls and wii sports.

You're right. Nintendo should have just ended support after WiiSports. THe Wii would have continued to sell the same way.

can you explain why the n64, gamecube and wiiu, not selling any where near the wii, when they had amazing nintendo software, better hardware for there time and better third party support.

Nintendo won't quit, but if they did, they would go third party. If they didn't go third party they would sell their properties off or lease their properties on a per game basis. Their properties are big names and would make them a lot of money, so Nintendo wouldn't just let those properties die without gaining anything from them.

/thread.

Japan will be underwater before Nintendo would ever sell any of their IP.

They would accept a buyout as a whole to Disney and become part of their media empire before that was allowed.

Either that or they'd find a new sugar daddy in Apple and come back and run Sony/MS into the ground with an Apple TV/Mac Mini type device.

Since the N64 days, the primary reason people get Nintendo platforms is Nintendo games.

You can't say about MS or Sony platforms. People buy those consoles primarily for 3rd party games.

Nintendo is struggling to sell as much hardware as Sony and MS, but they're also spending the least amount of money and will likely sell a ton of 1st party software. I wouldn't be surprised if they walk out this gen the most profitable again.

Nintendo wont quit home consoles, they can sell as little as 20 million units and still move enough first party software to make profits. Look at NSMBU, over 2 million sold on a 4 million install base, thats insane!! As i always say, there is more to gaming than just Microsoft and Sony. It seems to me that many people want to play Nintendo games, but a majority are too stubborn and pig headed to buy the hardware, hence the reason many cry out for them to go third party.

N64, GC or Wii U have no bearing on the point I am making here, which is the Wii U was mostly what it was because of Nintendo's software support and not because of just the revolutionay hardware or one game. WiiFit, WiiSports, WiiPlay, NSMBU and MK all played the biggest part in it and they are all Nintendo developed games. WiiSports started it off, but those other games latched on to the momentum and kept it going.

It was a similar situation for DS with NSMB, Brain Age, NintenDogs, MK and ofc Pokemon.

well it does make sense that people want to play most of their favourite games on 1 systems doesnt it?

xbox and ps offer a wider range compared to the wii U.

instead of wasting time marketing the wii U and making games for a system with a 4m install base, they could be making games for PS3/xbox's ~160m installbase (maybe lower taking into account failed consoles)

For starters, if it was Sony, Sony would likely have to give up their handheld business period or simply cede it to Nintendo. So there's that.

Does this mean that Sony and Nintendo already have such a deal in place?

Lol post of the day! :D

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I dont understand people downplaying the ability of Nintendos franchises to sell systems. If you dont see Mario Kart selling Wiis. You probably wont argue against Mario Kart 7 selling tons of 3DS. Same with 3D-Land.

Nintendo is the biggest software company on this planet. In sum their IPs sell a multiple of Sonys IPs + MS IPs. Adding Nintendos IPs to either the PS brand or XBox Brand would completely disbalance the industry.

To add to that, if Nintendo software isn't powerful enough to sustain or support a home console, it's not exactly going to be a monumental shift for whoever got those franchises.

Fact of the matter is Nintendo software isn't as powerful on home consoles as people think it is. Look at Gamecube. It sold on Wii because it was the Wii.

And once again the software is selling poorly.

There is a very dedicated fanbase for Nintendo software, but on home consoles it is not big.

And Wii was the Wii mostly because of Nintendo's software.

No because the software was motion control. Not because it was Mario.
