Forums - Sony - ps4 WOBBLES

This is total bullshit, you are spending $400+ on a system and Sony can't figure out you need a foot in each corner. What the hell goes on at Sony where they could overlook such a massive failure.

MASSIVE

"Wobbling" would be when it does this without anyone touching it.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I think the title of the thread needs to change to PS4 Wobblegate.

I don't get why Sony didn't just put four feet, one on each corner on the console. This seems like a completely stupid design decision.

Who in their right mind gives a rectangular object a tripod base without properly balancing it?

I think the response Sony is going to have is sending out a rubber foot.

You don't get it...?

It's for look purpose when your console stands vertically.

That's kind of cheap! And the Ds4 issues too. I hope most retail units don't suffer from this.

That doesn't make sense.

Look at the picture of the stand.  It sits flush with the edge (side) of the matte half of the console.  It snaps into the groove on the side.  At no point does it come up over the top or bottom panel requiring the feet to be inset or missing.

So, the missing feet are from the wrong side, for starters.  They're missing from the glossy side, not the matte side, and regardless the stand doesn't ever come up over either the top or bottom panel.

This seems like really bad design.

Just ridiculous. Functionality>astectics, always. Wtf.

Errr... You don't need the stand to put your PS4 vertical. It's an option.

It makes perfect sense. You have no foot visible in the air if the PS4 stands vertically.

One other reason is that the "missing foot" is where the Blu-ray drive sits. These DVD/Blu-ray drives tend to rotate quite fast, so the disk in the drive may slightly "wobble" (particularly since the drives likely are not the highest quality ones). If there were a foot under the drive, the table will pick up the wobble and increase the noise level. As the power supply (the heaviest element in the whole box) is on the "good end", the PS4 might actually wobble a tiny bit in the free air (while the disc is rotating fast), but certainly not enough to lift up the side with the power supply, and certainly not increase noise levels.

This seems like really good design.

Headdesk.

Then why couldn't Sony have put four rubber feet on the bottom of the PS4 so that there was NEVER a stability issue with the console?

The further we get into this the less and less sense you're making.  If I don't need the stand on to stand my PS4 up on its side, then why the heck don't they have four feet on the bottom panel instead of three?  There's nothing to get in the way of standing the console on its side if you put feet on the bottom panel of the console.

Four clear rubber feet, so they're invisible and they keep the console slightly raised up off the surface if laid flat.  More importantly, four at the corners or equidistance from the edges so the console remains flat and balanced.  Not a fricken teeter-totter.
