It makes perfect sense. You have no foot visible in the air if the PS4 stands vertically.
One other reason is that the "missing foot" is where the Blu-ray drive sits. These DVD/Blu-ray drives tend to rotate quite fast, so the disk in the drive may slightly "wobble" (particularly since the drives likely are not the highest quality ones). If there were a foot under the drive, the table will pick up the wobble and increase the noise level. As the power supply (the heaviest element in the whole box) is on the "good end", the PS4 might actually wobble a tiny bit in the free air (while the disc is rotating fast), but certainly not enough to lift up the side with the power supply,and certainly not increase noise levels.
This seems like really good design.
