first off don't get either a DS or PSP unless you REALLY want one.
Secondly if you HAVE to get one, then pick up the PSP.
Definitely get a PSP if you can get one. I really enjoy my PSP. I hope to get a slim sometime 8).

Yes, you must get it! The game selection is getting better all the time, capped off by God of War: Chains of Olympus, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and Final Fantasy: Crisis Core. And you can play any PSone game that is on PSN via remote play! Do it, you won't regret it. Remember, Play B3yond!
Oh yeah. I'm pretty excited about FF Crisis Core. I'm sure God of War will be awesome. But I'm not sure if I'll actually get it or not. Undecided.

It's a great little device. If you're all up for portable gaming, the PSP is truly something else. It all depends on what kinds of games you like however. It'll be a monster RPG machine after this year. It also has an installment of Metal Gear Solid and soon will have a God of War title. The novelty of the graphics wears off fast, but the games that we're made correctly do not disappoint one bit. My favorite game thus far is Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness. I have seven games, but that game has monopolizd my time the most. There are other, less than legal things you can do with the system also, which can results in you never buying a game again for it, but you can google that stuff yourself.

Yes, it's pretty much a SNES, Mega Drive, PSX, and (obviously) PSP all in one. Unless you're a casual gamer, the PSP is definitely the way to go, it has better games than the DS in almost every genre.
I am not a handheld kind of guy (not enough time spent with my consoles as it is...), but I would pick up a PSP if I would get one or the other. I am dying to play Crisis Core, the new Castlevania game, Jeanne D'Arc, Patapon, Beats, all the crazy tactics games, Silent Hill: Origins...and the list goes on...
