Closer looks at the expected sales of the Xbox One during launch in only 12 countries and the recent disappointment of the first numbers of preorders for the console i'm starting to doubt the longevity of the system. The Xbone might be a fad after all which wouldn't be that surprising considering the sales of previous Microsoft Consoles, which started well at first too. Although the sales of the these dropped much quickly.
Like I think the reason why the Xbone could have a stronger start over its predecessors is because of the good brandname and the innovative Kinect. I am worried what will happen to the world wide sales once people get bored of this gimmick, my guess is that the sales of the Xbone will take a disasterous hit. Most of the Xbone’s success can be attributed to shooters which is evidenced by the sales of Halo and Cod. This can't last forever.
On top of that I also lost faith in Microsoft as a developer of top notch first party software after the disappointments their combo of big games (Halo, Forza, Fable) has been. Halo has lost its epic feel since it isn’t made by Bungie, Forza will look barely better and not offer the deep experience I was used to from the previous games, Fable seems to be a totally easy game now (thanks to the casual gamers who can't handle hard games) which can be finished in a matter of hours. I feel betrayed by Microsoft and I am sure that I am not alone, many other longtime Microsoft fans probably feel the same way. Easy games suited for casual gamers is not the way this industry should heading to, I want to play my epic singleplayer games like they used to be. Instead of making games for me, Microsoft develops Xbox Fitness and other crap which aren't even real games.
Unless third parties don’t start seeing the Xbox one as viable platform we will get mostly minigames for kinect and cheap ports from them, much like the Wii's library this gen. The indication for a strong launch early on don't matter as all the major third party franchises I care for are still not in the works for One. That's not what I would call serious support. I can't really blame them, seeing that only shooters seem to sell well on the Xbox systems, the One will be no exception.
Dim is the future once the Wii U and ps4 get another price cut, the One is finished, because I don't see Microsoft dropping their price as well, they will continue to overcharge for their outdated hardware which as we all know is only a xbox360 2.0 combined with kinect.
Now another reason why I could see the Xbox One failing is the growing adoption rate of Full HD TV’s the Xbone barely offers 1080p . Even the Wii U does it better and will be able to outcell the One easily because of the bigger hardcore fanbase and its futureproof franchises and will last for at least ten years. On top of that the 2014 lineup of the Wii U (MK, LoZ,SSB and Fire Emblem) and the PS4 (MGS6, GT7, FF, KHIII and Knack) can't be countered by anything the One offers.
Other problems I have with the One are: Games for it so far haven't proven that the Kinect can be used in more than just gimmicky ways. Microsoft doesn't seem to care for Indies, with result that it will feature very few completely new game experiences. Less crappy games seems to be a great idea at first, but let's be honest, between the thousands of games are gems very possible!
Generally the One will sell good because of the fanbase much like the Apple addicts. But the old technique used in the One can't last forever and we will most likely see a Kinect less One in 2014, just like some analysts like for instance Patcher said.
