That's pretty much how it's going to be, regardless of how anyone sees it, or wants to see it.
Both will probably be sold out through the majority of Q1 2014 unless both MS and Sony are producing their consoles at unsustainable rates relative to sales with regard to initial demand. My guess would be either they both have their sales projections dialed in fairly close and have their production rates appropriately matched, or they are willing to err on the lower end of production relative to potential sales rather than ramp up initial production, only to have to dial it down in the following months. There's simply less risk involved. The worst case scenario would be to have retailers holding off on new shipments or even sending shipments back to distributer warehouses if retail sales fall well under supply.
At any rate, it will be sometime into Q2 2014 before things start to get interesting and we see how both platforms react to the inevitable post launch software drought with respect to sales.
