I think it has to do with the PS4 launch getting closer. People are seeing what money they have available and such. You will see a boost with XB1 games as well when we get within 2 weeks.

I LOVE the hypocrisy on display here by the way... for years we heard from a very vocal segment of the gaming community (a large part of them Sony fans) about how COD was ruining the industry with its yearly installments offering up the same ol' same ol' with no major innovations, and now all of a sudden the slightly prettier version of the latest yearly installment of one of the most polarizing franchises of all time is being hailed as a model for the launch of the next Sony console... you just can't make this stuff up! |
Because they have to buy a PS4?

Because 150+ million people already own a PS3/360 and don't want to spend several hundred dollars to play a game they can already get? :P The next gen version having half as many pre-orders as the current gen version despite having an install base of 0 is pretty damn impressive if you ask me. So evidently someone cares enough to buy it ^^

Initially, I think supply will dictate the console sales because both will sell out. However after the initial sales, I do think that COD sales will also dictate which system will sell more in the US. |
Not deniable about the herding but none of my cod circle seems affected by the reselution. anytime we discuss cod were are talking about in game aspects that will make it a diffeent experience. Nobody has been talking much about graphics and what not. No defectors in my circle. That would include about 20 players on my xbl friends list that prioritise playing with each other over all other people on our list respectivley.
though this bunch was strongly tied over time (most of us) from cod 4 to now so I can't speak for the general crowd. pre orders tend to peek a week before launch, people are itching because the ps4 launch is so close. I see a tighter race iin the north than last time around but I still thin MS wins at least that.
Still think the transition to the new consoles will be slower this time around, due to the consoles not having the big jump in power like they used to.

Just saying, the 360 is a current gen machine and resolution wouldn't change that to people already buying it there. Pointless effort. |
Scroll up one. Sorry, didn't hit quote button.

Not necessarily. You could be right, but the early trend was PS4 out pre-ordering, then Xb one pre-orders accelerated (just after the Xb 180) and have been higher than PS4 on a weekly basis right up until the latest chart. It could be just the one week difference in launch date, but it could also be a small but notciable number of people who may have pre-ordered on Xb one who have been sucked into the reso-warz and gone with the native 1080p version. Not that in the heat of battle anyone is going to notice in the slightest.

At this point, pre-orders for software are already determined based upon which system a given consumer has already ordered. Hypothetical situation: I've already ordered my XB1, I want to play CoD on it as my first game. Breaking news says that oh no; the native render resolution of my CoD will be lower than that of the native render resolution of the competing PS4 which I have: A) Not pre-ordered. and B) Is not available for pre-order on account of being sold out. So... do I not buy/play CoD for my soon to be shipped XB1, or do I not play CoD and wait until I can buy a PS4 so I can play CoD on it instead at 1080p native render resolution? Point being, people who have pre-ordered either an XB1 or a PS4 are already committed to buying whichever one they pre-ordered. They can't simply change their mind, cancel their pre-order and order the other because they're both sold out. Will this effect future orders once either or both systems become available again? Maybe. I'd be inclined to say that Xbox fans will still order an XB1 regardless of technical inferiorities, either because they already have too much invested in XBL, they have more friends on XBL, or they simply want to stick with the Xbox platform. |
I don't think the initial sales would be affecte because both consoles will sell out at launch, and sales will be most affected by supply. However, after holidays, we'll see which system will come about in the front.
So how will we determine which one sells better on there console. Since ps4 will probably have more units available then it shouldnt surprise no one that the ps4 ferison outsells the x1 verision but the attach rate could be higher with the x1 version then it is on the ps4 version. So do we go by just number sold or do we go by the number of consoles compared to number of copies sold

The only consequences are adorable threads like this one.
